Cabo Frio (english: Cold Cape) is located some 160 km from Río de Janeiro. It is enclosed by the Atlantic Ocean and Araruama Lagoon.

Cabo Frio is the main tourism center of Região dos Lagos (Lakes Region). The city's economy is mainly based on tourism. Some of the tourist attractions in the city are the Feliciano Sodré bridge, the Nossa Senhora da Guia chapel, the church of São Benedito, located in Passagem neighborhood, the Nossa Senhora da Assunção church and the Municipal Theatre.

Recently the city entered in the route of the greatest cruise ships.
