CuritibaCuritiba comes from the Tupi words kurí tyba, "much pine," due to the large number of Brazilian Pines (Araucaria angustifolia), in the region prior to its foundation. The Portuguese who founded a village in 1693 gave it the name "Vila da Nossa Senhora da Luz dos Pinhais" which means "Our Lady of the Light in the Pine Forest". The name was changed to "Curitiba" in 1721. It is said that Curitiba never closes. Because , it attracts curitibanos and tourists that look for leisure, purchases and options gastronomical 24 hours a day. Curitiba also attracts for Opera de Arame, Botanical Garden, Theater Storeroom, Museum Oscar Niemeyer, Theater Guairá, Park Tanguá, Park Tingüi, Park Barigui etc. City’s another attraction is Rail Museum. It’s a good idea to visit this museum if you have interest in the rail history of the State. The enclosed building shelters the Shopping Estação, the Museum of the Drugstore, the Theater of Puppets and the Estação Embratel Convention Center, a modern center of events.
