I am a self-published author and need a set of illustrations for a light-hearted adventure book series for girls between the ages of 7 and 11.

I want to use this competition to identify an artist I can work with on a total (so far) of 4 already-completed books.

In this competition I would like you to draw me a sketch of one of the 3 sample scene settings I have included in the attachments. You can choose whichever one you prefer. Assume A4 proportions. Make the size nice and big; I will resize the image.

I am only asking you to do ONE sketch but you may choose to do more if you want.

The illustration does not have to be complete or perfect but should be good enough to enable me to judge your ability and suitability for this commission.

I have a attached a design brief to give you a better idea of what I am looking for but submissions that manage to create distinctive, identifiable and reproducible characters that meet the design brief will be preferred. Attention to detail will also be appreciated as will something 'unique' only you can add.

The prize is not guaranteed as I am looking for something special and want to identify only those who really buy in to this project, however, the eventual winner will be commissioned to make the illustrations for the first book in the series which will likely consist of:

1 x full colour cover illustration (Note: Not a layout; that will be done by someone else).
5 x full colour images for internal pages (portrait orientation expected)
10 x full colour character portraits (minimal background scenery)
Plus all the above in B/W line drawing outline style.

16 x small chapter motifs (BW or colour)

In addition we would work together to make 3 x full colour web 'hero' style graphic design images for the web site.

This second commission will be worth at least a further $380. By entering this competition you will be agreeing to work on this second project as well as potentially complete and (integrating feedback) modify your initial work undertaken in this project, if you win.

To make it clear I will own all rights in respect of this (and future) work and will require you to send me the original artwork as well as digital scans.
