I need this done and turned in by midnight on Friday the handbook can be done in a powerpoint USAGE Handbook Purpose and Objectives: To help you review the usage rules and to assist next semester’s seniors who are just learning many new usage rules, you (and a partner if you wish, but NOT the same one you used for the research project) are to create a handbook for them using the usage handout on student content. You may also use the internet to review the rules, as well as the handout. YOUR handbook should also follow the guidelines set forth below. Requirements: 1. Your handbook needs an illustrated cover page. You may use a computer to create this page, or it may be done by hand with your own original illustration or one that has been cut out or photocopied. Make it colorful, legible, neat, and attractive. Somewhere on the cover include a title, date, and your name(s). (12 points) 2. Your handbook will need original sentences for all 68 entries of the Commonly Misused Words. First you should state the rule in the clearest way possible. Then you will need an original example of each of the words used correctly. You may NOT copy examples or sentences from the textbook or usage handout. (68 points) Example: Rule: Moral or Morale. Examples: The moral of the story is to look before you leap. After three defeats, the team’s morale was low. Your handbook will also need a comprehensive practice page. This page should have 30 original sentences that require the use of a commonly misused word. You may NOT copy sentences from the handout. (15 points) Example Circle the correct usage of the following word or words: 1. Can/May we borrow the BMW to go to the prom? 2. Unfortunately, it’s quite/quiet cold outside, so the party will be moved indoors. 3. The last page of your handbook should contain an answer key for the practice page. (15 points). 4. When your handbook is complete, bind the pages together and turn in. You will have some class time to work on your handbook and some materials will be available, but you may have to complete some of the work at home. One day late will result in a 15% deduction, 2 days late 30% deduction, after 2 days 100% deduction. Evaluation: Your handbook will be graded on the following criteria: complete, accurate, easy to understand, neat, organized, and attractive. (110 points total) Try to make your handbook a book that other senior students will want to use! ****One of the best hints I can give you is to create a theme to your book. For example: your entire handbook can pertain to the platypus, or the bald headed eagle’s rise to fame, or love between high school seniors, or seniors embarking on a college career, etc. If you come up with a theme, all of your practice sentences, etc. can relate to that, and it will be much easier to write.
