My idea is to apply to all images special filter like e.g. threshold ( simply to reduce image to two color image), then using OCR gamera find the connected components of black color ( our digits + noise ). After finding it, we assign to a picture of number a number and to some other noised components e.g. a dot or a symbol like "-" . Next step is learning step. We tell to gamera to guess and then repeat the procedure on more images until the learning is done. I tried this on examples, and it worked. The filter helps quite well and gamera recognizes the connected components. I can send you a screenshots of this experiments, if you want.
