I have just inherited a small Rails project, and need to get someone to go through a few steps to get the environment in order. These are the items I am looking for initially:
1) External backup of Staging and Production Postgres databases
2) Validate db:migrate scripts will generate the current database schema
3) Branch and test pushing of a simple screen change, and table change to Staging, then to Production
4) Document (simple bullet point) pushing to Staging and the push to Production
5) Document (simple bullet point) how you would go about rolling back the change in Dev, Staging and Production
6) Get a Cloud9 Development setup and upgrade the Staging and Production areas to be the latest most stable versions of Ruby etc. Note the Production and Staging environments are in Heroku.
7) Externalize running of dyno job
1) Configure PG backup for database backup.
2) Fix and update the database migrations.
3) Make a fix and push to staging and production.
4) Document the needed the stuff and update the documentation if any!..
5) Update Ruby and rails env and push the same in both env.
6) Configure dyno in Heroku env.
