This project is for somebody with: - Very good English language writing skills AND - A thorough knowledge of small aircraft aviation including an excellent grasp on the material typically found in UK PPL exams. Your task is to write a question set for the UK PPL (PPL, NPPL, and JAA PPL as administered in the UK) that accurately reflects the totality of questions and topics that are covered in current practice in such examinations. What you write will form a basis for a series of UK PPL electronic study materials. If desired, you can be listed as a or the author or editor. Please see the more detailed description further in this listing for specifics. ## Deliverables Hello there and thank you for looking into this project. This project consists of writing ORIGINAL HIGH QUALITY aviation learning content (specifically questions, answers, and explanations) for the UK (UNITED KINGDOM) JAR PPL and NPPL (especially the former) private pilot AIRPLANE written exams. Specifically, you must write a complete set of questions for ALL of the following exams: - Air Law and Operational Procedures - Meteorology - Navigation - Flight Performance and Planning - Aircraft General + Principles of flight - Human Performance and Limitations - Communications You must already have an in depth knowledge of these things, probably because you are already a licensed pilot (at the very least a private pilot) and preferably a flight instructor in the UNITED KINGDOM. The intended use for your work will be that it will be used as part of our electronic and other learning resources for pilots. In other words, electronic exam prep. We want to provide UK pilots with an exceptionally high quality study product for the PPL theory exams. IT MAY BE VERY HELPFUL FOR YOU TO LOOK AT THE UK IMC THEORY EXAM PREP SOFTWARE ON OUR WEBSITE (GOOGLE "UK IMC THEORY EXAM PREP") TO GET AN IDEA OF THE SORT OF QUESTIONS / CONTENT YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO DO. In writing these, you are allowed to be (even heavily) INSPIRED BY resources including books such as the PPL Confuser, AFE study guides, and others. This is ok since they are themselves heavily inspired by the actual exams, which you of course can reference as well if you have access to them. It is highly recommended that you use ALL available books with similar content to save time + ensure completness. However, at the end of the day the material you submit must represent original work. For each of the 7 tests, you will provide a set of questions. The number of questions in each set is expected to be approximately 1.5 to 2.0 times the number of questions for the equivalent set of questions in, say, the PPL confuser or AFE study books. The questions you provide in each set should cover all relevant topics and questions likely to be seen in that exam. The 'overage' should be filled in generally by creating meaningful variations on existing questions to help users learn (for example, you may create several weight and balance questions that are fundamentally similar, but with different numbers.) and by ensuring that you have a complete set of the various questions and topics as seen in several major external study materials and guides == THE TOTAL NUMBER OF QUESTIONS REQUIRED ACCROSS ALL 7 EXAMS IS APPROXIMATELY 1000-1200 == For each question, you will provide: [example in brackets] - A unique numerical id [454] - you can assign these sequentially or however you like- they simply facilitate our communication. - The test it belongs to [Air Law and Operational Procedures] - The chapter or section the question pertains to within a test (this is to help people focus their study on one area within an exam subject at any given point) - The question stem [What colour is the sky normally during the day?] - Four answer choices [A: red B: blue C: black D: yellow ] - The correct answer [B] - A DETAILED explanation of the correct answer, which may range from a few sentences to a few paragraphs, essentially consistent with the sorts of explanations in the PPL confuser and AFE question and answer simplifier. where necesary, you may quote from regulation and official document at length. Where possible, you should at least provide a pointer to an appropriate reference document (CAA / government reference documents only - NOT the textbooks of private companies!) - AnswersLocked [yes] or [no] based on whether the answers should always be presented in the A B C D order to the student. usually [no], but is [yes] for example when a choice is 'All of the above' or 'A and B' for example. For most/some questions, you will also provide: - some questions require a reference figure. (weather chart, table, etc.) you must proivde these for the questions that require them or if you are unfamiliar with how to do this, clear instructions to us as to where to get them. - some explanations require figures and drawings. you must sketch these out in low quality, which our designers will convert into higher quality. - some question explanations require worked out calculations. - for many questions you can provide REFERENCES such as pointers to applicable regulations. - Some indication of whether the question applies to the UK PPL, NPPL, JAA PPL, or some subset of these. note that some prep materials feature 'essential revision' sections outside of the questions explanations. we don't, so you must include all such info in the explanations themselves. often, it is ok to cut/paste the same things into several questions. TECHNICAL: from you, we want good quality written questions. the actual format that you give them to us is unimportant (thouogh some consistent logical format is appreciated). in theory, they can even be legibly written on paper, though honestly we'd prefer something electronic. eventually, your questions will be placed into our internal content management system and you will be able to work on them online. Typically, this will happen about 3/4 of the way through. As this project progresss, you will find yourself wanting to go back and modifying things you did before - that's no problem. IMPORTANT: WHILE THE UK certainly has its own unique questions, a significant percentage of questions share considerable commonality with questions in, for example, Canadian and FAA tests (such as in areas of aerodynamics, etc). You will be welcome to have access to our online database of questions, images, etc that you can use to develop your question set. Additionally, we are fundamentally asking you to write the text here - our editorial team will work to illustrate the questions and explanations as well. Needless to say, in the course of your work you should complete quite a large number of navigation-type problems complete with fully explained navigation logs and related explanatory materials. this should be basedon current UK VNC charts. We expect regular deliveries of questions to show progress. IT IS A CRITICAL PART OF YOUR BID THAT YOU PROVIDE US WITH AN EXACT SCHEDULE OF THE QUESTIONS THAT YOU INTEND TO PROVIDE. This schedule, and your ability to stick to it, are a key part of your bid. A dedicated person working full time can probably do this in a few weeks. If you are working part time / evenings, it may take longer. However, whatever schedule you propose to us, EXPECT US TO HOLD YOU TO IT. For example, we suggest that you propose to us a schedule with X number of questions to be delivered each week, broken down into each individual exam. Your bid will be even more appealing if you break this down further into specific subjects. As a small company, we are somewhat price sensitive. The amount you bid is important to us. All bids accepted for this project: - will be the sum of payments made for your work on this project. - will be held in escrow until the ENTIRETY of the project is completed. this prevents workers from leaving us with a half-finished project. IF YOU CANNOT ACCEPT THIS, DO NOT BID. If for any reason you abandon the project, we reserve the right to keep and vest into ourselves whatever portion of the project you may have delivered up to that point. Why is this? Because, honestly, we want to work with somebody who FINISHES what they start. In all cases, your writing should be professional, high quality. the tone of your writing can be familiar and friendly - it does not have to be (and in fact we prefer it not be) detatched Your work will be used in electronic PPL study materials. you must agree to vest all rights to the work in us (the buyer) and give up all future financial claims and copyrights to it. This is "work for hire." That said, we are happy to list you as an or the author in web pages and other material associated with this project. While YOU are going to be the primary author of this work, you can expect sundry changes and input from our editorial team. This is especially true on the 'illustration' front. We really like questions and explanations with images - if you sketch something out, we can make it more professional. Please understand that your questions and other material may at time be modified even substantially if we feel that a rephrasing or reworking may better suit the educational objectives of our potential users. Your contact at our small company will be an experiened aviation editor who is himself a pilot and flight instructor (though not UK-certified). BIDDING CHECKLIST: ANY BID MISSING ANY OF THESE ITEMS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. 1. INCLUDE 10 SAMPLE QUESTIONS to show up that you can indeed do the work. The sample questions you provide and any mutually negotiated corrections / enahncements thereto will be the base 'template' that will define 'acceptable' work in the scope of this project. In other words, we expect all 1000-1200 questions that you do to be generally at least as good as these 10 sample ones. 2. INCLUDE YOUR PROPOSED TIMETABLE OF WORK as described above. We are human. We understand that projects sometimes slip. However, this schedule will serve as the general basis for the project. 3. INCLUDE a brief description of your aviation experience so that we know who you are (but do not disclose personal information at this time as this is prohibited by vWorker rules). 4. Your bid for this project will of course include your price. Please remember that the bid maximum we have listed now is just that - a maximum. As a small company, we are price sensitive and we will factor your project bid price as part of your total bid. ADDITIONAL: We are really looking for AIRPLANE only at this point. However, if you are capable of doing a HELICOPTER variant of this as well (needless to say, many questions will be the same, but some certainly won't), please let us know along with some indication of price and schedule for this. This is obviously a very small market in the UK, but if it can be done in a reasonable fashion, we would be potentially interested. thank you for your bids! we look forward to working with you!
