This request is just to see if this possible and feasible? I am looking for somebody to make minature intelligent streetlights that can sense a motion or presence. We need them on a demo board where we somehow should simulate somebody walking (with hand or something preferable a moving object). Then our control system should handle the light adjustment. I am on purpose do not specify more now since this may require a discussion first. Please attached picture.

Hi, my name is George Bouris. Although I can develop this device exactly the way you describe it,there is a logical mistake in your idea. It's a smart idea to control the street lights, with the presence of one or more people, meaning to turn 1 (if the person is almost below the light pole) or 2 (if the person is in the space between 2 light poles) of the street lights on. But, what's the purpose of dimming the 3rd or/and 4th street light on each direction. Dimming them, they will not contribute to the lighting of the area any more. Anyway, for the implementation of your idea, my proposal is: - Each unit has its own ID - ID's belong to a sequence (3, 4,...n+2) and the units are arranged following this sequence. - Each unit can transmit and receive messages wirelessly. - There are 2 message codes: "ON", "DIMMED" (if you add a mechanism to measure the distance from the person the control may be proportional to the distance). - When a unit (m) detects a person in its area, it turns its light on and starts sending a message to the m-2, m-1, m+1, m+2 units in predetermined intervals, to adjust their output accordingly. The number of controlled units, may be increased. - The receiving units will turn off after a predetermined time, unless a new message received. - There will be a priority in the lighting adjustment, based on the intensity. This is the general idea. I can design and program a prototype and give you instructions to build your own, with as many units as you like.

You could use motion proximity sensor for this purpose. It could be PIR Sensor which can measure the moving object max to 20 feets. This sensor can be set with arduino micro/mini which is small and cheap price. For synchronizing with other "nodes", we could use NRF24L01+ for linking between arduino as well. So, we could measure the position of the moving object between nodes. Is this what you look for?

i have work on projects which uses motion sensors and some other projects in which RF communication is involved. Apart from your suggested solution we can also use vision system and detect a person by using haarcascade files and in return to that we can control the lights... motion sensors can also be used..

You can use an ir sensor to detect movent in a range between 0.5 to 10 m than with a light sensor you can measure light exposition in real time and adjust to your needs. Or if you are working outside or making it as simple as possible you can adjust light on a time base when you detect movement
