Your client, Climber’s Paradise Inc, has contracted you to develop an Excel workbook based on the information contained in this document, using Microsoft Excel 2010. Luckily, you don’t have to start from scratch. The client had some basic Information Systems skills and already has a database from which you can extract data. They have already started to develop an Excel workbook as well, but gave up due to lack of skills. Your job is to take the available database (Access file available on Blackboard) and develop queries that will facilitate you to finish the Excel workbook that your client has started (the incomplete file is available on Blackboard). You should read the below requirements summarised by the client, decide which data you need to finish the workbook, write the appropriate queries to extract the data from Access, and then finalise the formulas and analyses required in Excel. You must include appropriate formulae and functions required to set up the workbook in such a way that formulae and functions are fully flexible and dynamic. In addition to the workbook itself, you are required to submit the Access database file containing the queries you developed for data used in Excel. Your Excel workbook must also include two charts that you feel are appropriate to illustrate your analysis The Client Climber’s Paradise Inc was established in 2011 by Gabe Walker who is an avid mountain climber and an accredited climbing instructor. Gabe offers his clients climbing expeditions and operates his relatively small but dynamic business out of his home office in Brisbane, Australia. Gabe specialises in organising accreditation climbing tours all over the world – perfect holidays for thrill-seekers who want to advance their climbing skills under expert supervision. Climber’s Paradise Inc offers 1-week and 2-week tours to four main destinations: Mongolia (Mount Khuiten), Tanzania (Kilimanjaro), Peru (The Andes), and Nepal (Mount Everest). During these tours, Climber’s Paradise Inc’s clients perfect their skills through reading relevant climbing guides (authored by Gabe Walker) while acclimatising at their chosen destination, and then climb their chosen mountain under the watchful eye of Gabe’s hand-picked expert climbing instructors. Gabe has some Information Systems knowledge and has developed a basic database to record transactions that occur in his business. He was planning on developing a decision support workbook in Excel but realised he didn’t have the necessary skills to complete the task. He has asked you to take the database he created, and the workbook he started, and complete the task. Primarily, Gabe wants to use the workbook to see, amongst other things, sales of his climbing guides, as well as sales of travel guides, maps, and, of course, the number of climbing holidays organised. Gabe would also like to use the spreadsheet to view details of employees and clients for future marketing purposes. Note that the entire workbook is intended to apply to January 2012 data, which means that the file would be saved and backed-up at the end of the month, before the data is cleared for entering the next month’s data. This means that your formulae need only work for the month already referenced in the workbook (i.e. January 2012).
