We design and manufacture large steel frames that consist of many parts. Typically one frame may have over 100 parts.
All of the parts are created and drawn in CAD and a PDF of the drawing saved in a master folder.
The CAD system produces a list (called a BOM) of the components that go into each frame assembly.
When we purchase parts, they arrive from the supplier in a large box. Someone has to work out what each part is, this is time consuming and none of the physical parts carry identification numbers. He only has a list of parts and must open and close each drawing manually.
We need a program/script that will run through an excel file list, find the PDF files and create a new document with a thumbnail of the PDF alongside the part number. An example of the desired output is shown attached.
Some of the parts are "Laser cut" and for those files, the thumbnail must be of the second page in the PDF.
Only one thumbnail should be created for each file. For example, if the file has 4 pages, the thumbnail should be of page one only (unless it is laser cut in which case only page 2)
An example of the desired output is shown attached.
We believe the process will be similar to the following:
*Import an excel file in the same format as shown in the example image.
*Ask the user where the files are located (prompt for the first file only, all others will be in the same location)
*Open the first PDF drawing from the selected folder
*The name shown in the excel file is not the exact file name but the part number will be identical - See the same files attached that show the format of the PDF file names.
*If the "laser cutting" column for that part =1 then print every page EXCEPT the first page
*If the "laser cutting" column for that part =0 the print all pages
*If there is more than one revision of the PDF file (denoted by Rev-XX on the end of the file name), only the HIGHEST revision number should be printed. (See File Revisions image attached)
*If the part number in Excel ends with -00 the PDF file name will not include -00
*If the part number in Excel ends with a number other than -00 that suffix will be on the PDF file name. (See attached Part Revisions image)
*Capture a thumbnail of the page
*Insert the thumbnail into a word or excel document with the part number alongside.
*Move to the next file in the list
The system should prompt the user to browse to the PDF file location for the first file only. Once the user has chosen the folder, the program should use that folder for all other lines.
An example of the desired output is shown attached.
Sir,
I am well versed in this kind of jobs and can do your project as per requirement.
I have over 8 years of experiences.
I am very much able to work on this. ***I am ready to start
Hello Sir,
I am an excellent VBA and C# programmer. I can certainly help you create this program to reduce the manual effort and have the program select appropriate files and print them.
Thanks

First I would like to know what version of Excel you are using. As I am using Excel 2013 on VM on a Mac., macros created may not work on older versions of Excel. I have created many macros and creating one produce thumbnails and place it Excel in a desired position should not be difficult. Is the "laser cutting" information only on the pdf or available elsewhere,- example in the filename itself. There may be more clarifications required as I get to know more about the project.

Okay,
I read your proposal, it is an interesting project.
I have experience in using scripts to do conversion jobs like pdftoexcel pdftocsv vice versa and many more.
I have a few questions for you if you are interested in awarding the job to.
I have done 2 small projects here on freelancer and now I am looking for big ones, you won't see my rating directly as I don't have matching skill tags.
You can interview me if interested

Dear sir,
I've recently completed similar project related to processing files of both those types, so I am sure I will be able to create such application
