Design process is pretty dificult and depends on many factors, starting from magazine market type, target audience and all typographic related things must be inline with global trends, so for example for heavy industry publications usually a sans serif fonts should be considered as a base for paragrpaph text. For life style publications usualy serif typeface are the most preferable ones.. So it all depends, butthere is a rule which have to be remember that no more than two tpefaces must be used to design a spread, in some cases 3 typefaces are OK, but it have to be cearfuly applied.. Another rule is that when it comes to combine a font pair, then one of them must to have a storng character when second one must to be neutral.. I do prefer to do not full justify text in life style magazines, left aligend text makes it looks more interesiting. Text should look interesting, so any inline quotes, sentences, standout infoboxes are pretty good idea. Generally speaking it is very long topic, could be disccused for hours..
