Develop a client/server application for Android. The Android application asks the user to provide an IP address via the touch screen. The application then makes a ping to this particular IP address and stores the result on a server. At any time the client can show the result of the ping that it retrieves from the server. The Android application must be implemented with the native Android API strictly (no third party tools) and the server can be implemented using any technology. Both client and server application source code must be provided with a licence (the licence is let to your own discretion but the choice must be justified).

Specific knowledge  Good knowledge about mobile application development on the Android platform.  Familiarity in Linux operating systems (Ubuntu, Windows XP, Windows 7  Experience in programming using java 6, JDK desktop configuration and use of its resources.  Solidified knowledge in object-oriented programming, inheritance, encapsulation and polymorphism.  Unit tests using Junit (acceptance, rejection).  Application server (OC4J, WebLogic, Apache Tomcat, GlassfishV3).  Bond knowledge in Swing application development (Client Server Desktop), JApplet and WebStart (Web) and Graphics2D.  Database: MySql, Oracle (Spatial), PostgreSql (Postgis). Knowledge in SQL, creating Triggers, Sequences. Database modeling (MER).  Knowledge of UML: use case Diagram, Sequence diagram, class diagram, activity diagram, Component Diagram.
