Automate PDF Tiling

This project involves taking some master images / files, slicing them up, and creating a PDF file. Ihave about 50 different large PDF files. Each PDF file is a single page but it's a huge page (about 60 inches x 22 inches). Obviously, it is much too big to print without tiling each page. However, there are a couple of problems with just doing a regular tile. First, only Acrobat Pro allows you to tile when printing. Acrobat Reader does not give you that option. I could use Acrobat Pro, print the file as tiles to a new pDF file. However, I would like more control of the tiles (where they break) and I would also like the resulting PDF file to have a standard header and footer in addition to the tile. Also, because the contents of the original PDF changes monthly, it would take too much time to individually splice all 50 documents. So, I am looking for an automated way of accomplishing this task. It would need to slice up all 50 documents and create multi-page documents with an A4 size page. Each page would have a standard header and footer and there would be a couple of introduction pages in the beginning of the resulting file.
