Mini Client Request Management System Access 2000 database deployed on a network via linked tables **Context** We need to install the database on a LAN using one master DB with separate DBs and, on each user's PC, a separate DB with a linked table to the master DB. I've used Access' default record locking. **The problem: ** It installs fine, but locks up the system as soon as we do anything remotely complicated, such as switching languages (which closes a subform and opens another) and changing the data in the *historique* field (which is on the main form but is fed from the subform). I may have skipped certain elementary DB design steps, given that this is only my 2nd real Access project to date. I do have SOME knowledge, however, so while the problem is at a fairly low level, I don't think it's that serious and I imagine it's fairly easy to fix. I think the problem lies in two sections: *Subform*: Right now, it’s a select query, but users will be updating the database from the subform.. *Historique* Right now, this field reads the value from the subform. Two needs here: 1) have it change value when user changes record in subform, and 2) allow users to type in comments. Right now, I update the field by VB, but I doubt this is the way to go. Perhaps we need to put this field in a table all on its own, but how would we make it update when we change records? **Background: ** We receives requests from its Web form. The database allows us to keep track of requests, who is handling them, and how they are being resolved. **Administrator**: The administrator receives requests by e-mail and pastes their content into the database (frmAdmin form, Courriel field). VB populates a few fields (request type, date, language of the request, etc.), and the administrator assigns the request to an employee. **Employees** The employees use the frmCallManagement form to track clients’ requests. Employees indicate what actions they have taken to resolve the request (Action field). Each action that is taken is recorded in the Historique field. When the request is finished, we set the Action field to 99 (Terminé). ## Deliverables 1) Identify the problem. 2) Fix it. 3) Send it back. ## Platform Access 2000, Windows NT LAN. Don't know the specifics, but it's a Microsoft-all-the-way company.
