An application for RIM Blackberry java-based handhelds to gather location-based information about the user's handheld and other known handhelds.
Application will use published APIs to identify it's nearby cell tower IDs, and will exchange background messages with other handhelds, based on a list of entered PINs (blackberry handheld IDs) to query their nearby tower IDs. Based on this data, application will provide "who's nearby" functionality, including configurable-by-PIN alerting when another device enters or leaves "nearby" status.
