Auction site - complex programming

Cerrado Publicado Aug 21, 2009 Pagado a la entrega
Cerrado Pagado a la entrega

We have no inventory; third-party vendors list their products

here, we process the transaction and take a cut, then forward the order and the

money to the vendor. (We might have some inventory down the road.)

One or more content areas with man small pictures of jewelry. May include

Clearance, Just Added, Best Sellers, Hot Buys, etc. These should randomly pull

appropriate products from the database at page load.

A Browse By Categories section with 10 or so categories. This will be the main

route by which customers search for jewelry.

An Advanced Search link.

The look should be a bit busy, but not junky. EBay is a pretty good example.

However, I'd like the look-and-feel to be a bit classier and sleeker than eBay.

I'm also quite fond of the scrolling list of products on Barnesandnoble.com.

They display information when you hover over them.

Customer Profile

Customers can create an account and keep their credit cards or PayPal info on

file, or they can just do a one-time purchase.

Advanced Search

Customers can search by any combination of Category, Price, Vendor, etc. Should

be a fairly straightforward SQL thing.

Display of Search Results

When customers perform an advanced search or just click on a category in Browse

Categories, a table or results is returned, say 4-5 pieces of jewelry per row.

Each one has a picture, price, description, vendor name, etc. Clicking on the

item takes you to a unique page for that item with more detail (e.g. a text

description).

Items can be sorted by price, name, vendor, etc.

Items can be Saved For Later, Added to Cart, etc.

Customers can rate and review products. (This can wait for a later development

phase.)

Misc

Need all the standard stuff like About, Contact, Help, FAQs, help with forgotten

passwords and usernames.

Need an auto-mailing list that I can edit each month. Customers will opt in to

the mailing list when they sign up.

Vendor Side

Vendors can create an account with their store name, description, and contact

information. This information will be displayed on the vendor's page, accessible

via links from products offered by that vendor

Vendors can upload their products, set a price, create a text description, etc.

all by themselves. In other words, there is no need for the webmaster to help

vendors get their products listed. It must be easy and intuitive.

Vendors can also set a number of flags for each product. There might be flags

for Featured, Clearance, etc., as well as special limited-time flags

(Valentine's Day Special).

Administrative:

When a purchase is made, the website should automatically transfer payment to

paypal account of vendor, or send credit card payment, without a human in the

loop.

Calculate fees based on formula that can be altered, and may be different

depending on certain vendor-specified flags. For instance, if the vendor selects

the "Featured Product" tag, my cut may be 15% instead of 10%.

Save purchase details in database

The system should send an email to the vendor with order details. In stage 2,

the system should interface directly with each vendor's ordering system so far

as this is practical. May need to think about this part; I'm not sure if there

is some industry-standard way this is done, apart from emails.
