Hi! The main reason python exists in a first place is only one - to make the code as simple as possible for the person programming it (high-level or mnemonics), so the fact that the pythin code "appears to be relatively simple" does not suggest anything about how the "expanded" php code would be. Some python constructs are highly abstract and the conversion can be up to 60-80 statements per single python statement to get the same action logic out of it. I work on a daily basis with Java/Swing c/c++/python both on windows/linux/solaris on a professional level so I'm quite confident that I can do your project.
