December 3, 2001 Re: Bid request on the follow summary Project. Need to create an order entry application in VB 6 for my client. Client is small fabrication shop that accepts custom orders. Need a fully integrated system from order entry through shipping to include accounting system integration or to integrate with another VB accounting package or something like Peachtree complete. Operation will be seamless in apperance. I have a package that I worked on about three years ago in Access but want a rewrite with improvements. I can email you a confidential copy of the package to give you a view of the type of project I am looking at. Because of other projects I am involved in over the next 6 months, I need someone to do this project with my guidance. There is no immediate deadline. However target completion should be prior to June of 2002. Most of the input forms are similar to the old system but there will be modifications as some just don't meet the current needs. The current file size is approx 9 MB which includes about 700 customer records and about 30000 Order and Order detail records etc. Part of this requirement includes tracking the orders at about 14 stages of completion through out the shop by bar codeing the order number and station upon completion of each operation. There is also a new section of this package that inputs about 50 items for each line item on the order and based upon the input a text file is created for a cnc machine. I will have to fax to you a copy of the manual form to be used as a basis for the VB form. Most of the reports and forms will be identical to what is in the old package. The easiest solution may be to do a complete conversion to VB and them modify to what the final package will be. The bidding person should be proficient in VB 6 and sql and be able to recommend the hardware. The data should be maintained on a sql server and be accessed on a network of about 20 machines. About 10 of these machines will be used only for bar code wand stations for tracking the orders through out the shop. I would expect to be able to receive a package of finished software as well as all source code etc for future modifications.
