we would like to capture details of major PC hardware system components at time of and as part of the Web-based warranty activation process (and optimally after any subsequent service job where parts are replaced)
this would take place during user warranty activation on our web site .. this process is currently being redeveloped in PHP
this has to be some process of a user-initiated download & install
you may also want to utilise a third party shareware program that does actual capture but you can incorporate into a total process
the data should either be saved back to web db and/or emailed as form
we also need this data to integrate with our local network warranty management system SQL server data linked by warranty ID key
note there could be (the need for) several component captures for each warranty (one after each job)... these would all be saved and linked to warranty id/record, not discarded
this (only) needs to work on current PC technology and Windows platforms
brand/model/s.n./spec of all major components, ie m/b, cpu, ram, video, hdd, fdd, dvd, k/b, mouse
no/type of ports would be useful but not essential
some s/w details such as O/S type/ver and installed drivers would likewise be useful but not essential
if 3rd party shareware used, as this is essentially a 'one-off' use by users for NWS only, and NOT for their general or everyday use, a full or permanent s/w licence is not needed for any software by the user
we don't care what process is used as long as it is practical, user-friendly, accurate & reliable
