We need a Control Program to run on our network that will control which Applications users can run, and how much Internet access each user has.
The Control Program Administrator will assign each user a unique username and password that they will use to log in to the Control Program.
Client machines will have a variety of Applications installed, e.g. Microsoft Office suite, AutoCad, Internet Explorer, and others.
We want to have complete control over which Applications any given user can run. For example, Microsoft Office suite is installed; we may want to limit an individual to being able to use Word but not Excel, or allow the user to use Word and Excel but not Access or Outlook.
The Control Program must allow the Administrator to add, modify or delete users and Applications that are available to users; and to modify Application permissions for each user; as well as having complete control over Internet access permissions for each user.
The Control Program will also log all file activity: every time a file is opened or updated a copy of the file will be backed up, and a log entry will be made including the user name, date and time of the activity.
If a user has permission to use the Internet, the Control Program will control how much access they have to different web sites, or to different types of media.
## Deliverables
We need a Control Program to run on our network that will control which Applications users can run, and how much Internet access each user has.
The Control Program will run on a network that has one server and many clients.
The Control Program Administrator will assign each user a unique username and password that they will use to log in to the Control Program when they are ready to work.
Client machines will have a variety of Applications installed, e.g. the complete Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCad, Internet Explorer, and others.
We want to have complete control over which Applications any given user can run. For example, if the entire Microsoft Office suite is installed; we may want to limit an individual to being able to use Word but not Excel, or allow the user to use Word and Excel but not Access or Outlook.
If a user attempts to use an Application before the Control Program has been started on their computer, the Application will not run, and a pop up message will inform the user that they need to start the Control Program before they can use any Applications on their computer.
If a user attempts to use an Application that they do not have permission to use, the Control Program will prevent the Application from running, and pop up a message will inform them that they do not have sufficient privileges to use that Application, something like, "You do not have permission to use this Application. If you would like permission to use this application please contact your Computer Administrator".
Some users will have no restrictions on their Internet use, while others will be prevented from accessing certain sites, e.g. Youtube, Facebook, Hotmail, Yahoo etc. The Control Program will also control whether a user can have access to audio or video files, e.g. .avi. .mpg, .wmv, etc.
The Control Program will give the Administrator the ability to allow temporary permissions for users to run Applications or for Internet access, for any period of time the Administrator wishes to allow. Once this time period has elapsed, the default user permissions will be automatically in effect.
So with this Control Program the Administrator will have complete control over which Applications a user can run, and how much Internet access each user has.
