I have a 10-page document that describes the general business requirements, but now I need a business analyst to create formal requirements documentation. This project will be completed in phases and you will be paid for each deliverable.
I am creating a brand-new website to facilitate the networking process for business professionals. We will utilize certain social networking APIs. The website screen layouts will be fairly simple. The system will have a database of medium complexity. More time will need to be spent identifying business rules than designing the database or screen layouts. A database developer is available to assist with ER diagrams, data dictionary, etc.
## Deliverables
Project Requirements:
Since BA artifacts vary based on the template being used, I will not specify how many artifacts need to be created. Instead, I will describe in general terms the documentation that is needed and allow you to submit the relevant BA templates for our approval.
The process I will follow for selecting a business analyst is:
A. If you are interested, please submit the templates that you normally use in your work and describe your approach to the work. I will review the templates and tell you which parts / documents we need and which ones we don't (based on the specifics of our project). Some things we just need to be documented at a high-level, and other things we need to be detailed.
B. Based on my feedback, you will come up with a bid for the project. You can ask detailed questions to help narrow down the bid. It is OK to submit a range for your bid, but I would need you to specify what the range is dependent on.
Suggested BA Artifacts to be delivered:
1. Scope of Work. This will include executive summary, problem/solution statement, goals/objectives of the new system, challenges, risks, assumptions, in scope vs. out of scope, acceptance criteria. If you provide the template, I will complete as much of this document as I can. Then you can review & correct my text and then complete the rest of the document.
2. Business Requirements. This will include high-level process flow charts, high-level data flow diagrams, detailed screen layouts, detailed business rules, assumptions / dependencies, report requirements, system-wide requirements (performance, scalability, security), and glossary of terms.
3. Use Cases. (Perhaps 3-5 actors). Each use case will include a brief use case overview; reference to the functional area; preconditions; actors involved; main flow; alternative flows; exception handling flows; functional requirements for the solution; traceability to the business requirements; business rules applicable to the scenario; and user interface, controls, and data. The Use Case documentation will be used by the quality assurance analyst to create a test plan, so it will need to be detailed.
4. Technical Specification. This will include functional and non-functional requirements, a list of the various functional areas, high-level data flow diagrams, detailed screen layouts, input / output specifications, and traceability to the business requirements. A database developer is available to assist with ER diagrams, data dictionary, field names, data types, etc.
The above list represents the documentation that I want. Please ask questions. This project description is intentionally unspecific to see what kinds of questions you will ask.
After your questions are answered, I would like you to submit 1) the relevant BA templates for my approval (so I can understand what work is included in your bid), and 2) a bid to complete the work. It is OK to submit a range for your bid.
