In our business in France we scan Ids from customers. These scans are used to keep customer's data and also to extract their picture which we will print on a corporate card. We scan the IDS at cashdesk.
Only after, the Ids will be used to manage the customer database. We will soon start printing the cards on a CR80 format card.
We use scans of various types of french or foreign Ids with a special passport scanner.
We use to analyse (OCR) some of the french IDs with a software called « IDScan ». You can see [login to view URL] for info about the software.
The reason why we don't OCR all the Ids is that either the software has no templates, or the printing quality is too low, etc..
The software has a SDK to allow developers to integrate Idscan in their own applications ([login to view URL] and [login to view URL]
We have the problem that we have hundreds of pictures to be scanned and that is a very time-consuming and error-prone work.
We would need a small application that would take control of Idscan via the SDK to automate the scan of files.
The application should ask for the directory where the files are located, ask if all the pictures files (bmp+jpg+jpeg+png) should be scanned or only one specific extension.
Also the application would allow the user to scan only pictures whose name have a specific pattern, ie name contains « _0 » or names contains « recto » or no restriction on files name, these option being with checkboxes.
The application should be in Visual Basic, code should be reasonably commented, to allow for maintenance and/or further development.
Experts in OCR alternative solutions welcome (including zonal OCR) provided they are for passport/ID scanning.
