The program issues calls to routines in firmware of an Omron-type UART to get the data. • FL project #6113266 'Bartending machine'. Programmed in VBA modules over a tiny MS-Access database. Controls an array of boards featuring FTDI chipset, connected to a drink dispenser. I think my experience is well suited to carry out your project.
