Camcorder hack - changing the ccd or cmos image sensor

Many HD camcorders like sony's have a night-shot functionality which let the user record images at night using an infrared light and removing the ir blocking filter in front of the ccd or cmos sensor, sensitive to the near infrared light in the range 700-1000nm. But colours image sensors are optimized for day-light use, their sensitivity in the near infrared range is low, and they are not low-ligh enhanced. Monocrome sensors are much more sensitive in the near infrared range, and some have been optimized for these freq. range. Take for example the photonfocus A1312I, which has a quantum efficiency of 40% at 900nm. So here's the job: - Find a nice HD camcorder with mini-DV cassette and a good optical zoom and a good fast lens. Lens in particular is very important because the low-light performance is impacted by its quality. The more light it can gather the better. PAL is preferred. - Find a suitable ccd or cmos sensor, compatible or adatable to the camcorder. - Make a project for hacking the camcorder changing the old sensor with the new one. Eventually design the necessary circuitry, additional pcb board, mechanical parts and all what is necessary. - Build the final camcorder. The camcorder choosen must not necessarly be night-shot enabled. Changing the sensor you will also change or remove the ir blocking filter. The final result I would like to achieve is a full-spectrum monocrome camcorder, with high sensitivity in the near infrared range, with the best sensor actually available, with good lens, and all common camcorder functions working like zoom, autofocus, star-stop recording, review, manual controls if available etc. The project delivarables includes: - A complete documentation about the hacking: circuitry, schematichs, design, mechanical parts (if any) design etc... - The completed hacked camcorder. - Complete documentation about the hacking process (photo, video and/or documentation), in order to be able to hack another camcorder using the same tecniques. Please note: the original camcorder and the new sensor (along with all other necessary materials) will be provided by the worker and their price must be part of the bidding price.
