True crime grapple podcast has been going for just over a year now. Starting with just myself doing every aspect of the show, we know have a music editor and two writers and we're looking to add writers.
Full transparency , no one gets paid. everyone does it for the love of doing it. But the show is growing. We're closing in on 20,000 downloads and the podcast world is taking off big time. Hopefully if we keep our steady rise then sponsorship may become a factor for the show. This means that maybe at some point down the road you will be paid for writing but it's all dependent on if the show makes money.
So what is required? Well the show at the moment is bi-weekly. which means that myself and the other 2 writers work on a story at the same time.
For example writer 1 submits a story 2 weeks before the episode is due for release. This means there is a week for recording and a week to edit and produce the finished product. In the week when writer 1's story is being recorded writer 2 submits their story and so on. This means that each writer has a 4 week period in which to research, write and submit.
Episodes are to be a minimum of 45mins and a max of 1hr and 15 mins which means for a 45min show around 5,500 or so words is required and around 9,000 or so for the 1hr 15 show.
Plagiarism: We can't have that obviously. One of the beauties of doing this is that you are encouraged to write in YOUR OWN STYLE. Be creative!
You WILL be credited for your writing on the show and in the show notes always.
We also do bonus shows for Patreon customers where the writer and myself will chat about a case they've submitted. It's good fun and gives the audience the chance to hear us chat about it unscripted. This ISN'T something you have to do if you don't want to.
Finally and arguably most important. You will have input on the show. If you have an idea, say it. I've created a tight team here and everyone has a say to make the show better so if you want to be a part of building something then this is for you.
Requirements: A fan of the genre (True crime) is preferred but not a deal breaker.
Keeping to the schedule of submissions is very important to keep the flow going and build trust with our audience. If the quality is high and we're consistent then we'll grow.
You get to chose your case you want to write about.
Be honest with the team. This job takes research and time. If you're struggling to meet your deadline, just say so. The system in place means that essentially we're all writing at the same time so in theory someone else can pick up the slack.
Thanks for reading and I'm looking forward to hearing from any interested folks.
