Add new custom field type for Jira

I want to have a custom field type that behaves like the system fields label, component/s, etc. The behavior should be like this Select2 plugin:

but one important change:
The Select2 changes singleSelect and multiSelect fields to behave differently. I DON'T want this. Instead, I want a new type of field that behaves like this. Maybe call it "SmartSelect".
