The following piece of work is a presentation (carried out on MS Powerpoint - max 500 words) on the following topic below:
Background:
Projects in this area will look at exploiting the use of immunohistochemistry and novel antibody biomarkers to improve diagnosis of malignant conditions. You will need to demonstrate an understanding of the technology involved and how you might use this in a project consider one of the below;
Compare and contrast the use of traditional prostate markers (e.g. Cytokeratins) with novel antibodies such as p63, Pin4 and ERG in the diagnosis and grading of prostate carcinoma.
Compare and contrast the use of traditional single markers (e.g S100, Melan A, HMB45) with antibody cocktails in the diagnosis and grading of malignant melanoma.
Suggested Reading
Search the theory behind Immunohistochemistry, necessity for antigen retrieval, choice of chromogen and method of automation available (especially concentrate on Dako Autostainer and Menarini Intellipath)
Read about antibodies available as mentioned above and advantages and disadvantages of each.
If you have experience in using powerpoint and a medical/biology backgound then this will be sufficient! The budget is suffiently calculated since this is a presentation rather than essay!
