Linux networking application development

My company sells a commercial Linux application binary, available for download here: [login to view URL] This server application typically accepts TCP connections from 100's of simultaneous clients using a proprietary (but open-source) protocol. In this project, I want to scale up the number of simultaneous persistent TCP sessions from 100's to 1000's. Right now, I believe the application's thread pool for processing incoming connections is too small to deal with high load. In our Windows-flavored version, we used I/O Completion Ports (IOCP) to achieve very good results; am not sure what advanced techniques are available to me in standard 2.6.x Linux kernels. The developer needed for this project must have a strong understanding of NPTL sockets and TCP-intensive applications. The developer must also know Linux servers pretty well, to help with any necessary TCP tuning required of the application server. I will provide both the source code to our current Linux build, documentation of our proprietary protocol, and a Windows "test client" application to simulate 1000's of connections. Please let me know if you have any questions!
