Implement algorithm in C

Hi, I have a paper with an algorithm that searches for text patterns in compressed text files without decompressing them (CPM). The Algorithm takes two inputs: 1) compressed text, 2) pattern (aka 'keyword'); and outputs: The first location where the pattern occurs in the text. I want to implement the algorithm in C. I need the program to take as input a .Z file (generated using 'unix-compress' command). Please note that there is a current implementation of that algorithm that is using Go (golang), but it accepts as input an LZW stream of bytes, not the .Z file that is generated with the 'unix-compress' command, the way we need it to be.
