Build a wordpress travel website with interactive map feature

I1) Create a new website that will host content from my blog at [login to view URL] - site should be something I can update easily in the future, so likely best done in WordPress
2) Include a feature of an interactive map that will show trips by geography/category.
3) Create icons for the following sports: kiteboarding, backcountry skiing, ski mountaineering, wilderness travel, packrafting, SUP, mountain biking, road biking, adventure travel, Scuba
4) When the user hovers over the icon, it will show a short description and photo. If they click on it, they'll be taken to the full write-up.
5) A user should also be able to select which sports they want to see on the map and be able to zoom in/out around the world to see more clarity on geography. (it may be that something like the state of Alaska would show all the icons, and if you click on Alaska, it will bring up a larger map that shows more clarity on trips . . . and certain regions in Alaska you could click on and get even more detail). Near Anchorage, AK for example there is a huge density. But there will be nothing in Africa (yet), so not all zones of the world will need the same detail.
6) Eventually I'd like to use affiliate links (some of the source material from BlogSpot already have them), so it should be built with the future ability to generate income - any coaching on how to do this well is much appreciated!
7) The idea is that I'll build this website based on past trips and then add to it as I travel and adventure. It will become a resource for others who want to plan adventure travel trips around the world. I may ultimately make an Alaska guide out of it as well - so the Alaska region may need more capability than others in the world.
