My company ([login to view URL]) is celebrating two anniversaries this year for our two business units, 60 years for one and 70 years for the other. I want to create a graphic novel (comic book) for each business unit and print them back to back in reverse order of one another. I can handle design. I need illustration assistance for the story lines (2) and covers (2).

I have one story line already complete and will have other storyline completed within a couple of days. I envision a page layout with 1-4 frames per line and 2-3 frame lines per page. There will be several pages for each story.

I have no way to estimate the total number of illustrations required. I can say that there is a hero and villain in each story but I don't want anything dark or ominous. This is for business-to-business use and I am looking for a friendly style. If I can see your sample illustrations I can say whether the style is what I seek.

I know this will be very difficult to estimate but I am posting below, the one story line I have developed. It may help you estimate the scope of work:

Stellar Services is a plumbing-only, residential and light commercial contractor who wants to expand their offering to include HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning).

They hire Jill (Protagonist/Superhero) as the business development professional. Knowing what products lines they need, she explores current and potential suppliers (wholesalers). Finds one she likes but then discovers cheap, import GRDs (grilles, registers, diffusers) that don’t meet her quality desires. Supplier tells her that they are open to her recommendations for another line.

So Jill decides to do some research herself. This takes her to the web where she discovers the cool YouTube channel of Continental Industries and Brand X and Y web sites. She calls each of the Brand X and Y companies requesting a tour of their production facilities. They tell her that would be difficult since it’s their production is in never-ever land. Remembering the YouTube videos, she finds the Continental web site and sees that they have plant locations just a couple of hours from some family she has in Chicago. She calls Continental to request a plant tour and is enthusiastically invited to come and visit.

During the tour she learns of our history and anniversary and made in the USA quality. She also sees some pallets of import stuff and asks about it. Employee explains that some distributors and contractors want only the lowest price they can get. “So we can get them there with these or offer them the American made quality at a slightly higher price if they wish.” Jill nods in understanding.

Wholesaler is setup with Continental line and Jill transforms into a superhero as she saves the day with many new clients and projects. (She dons a costume which she wears throughout remainder of story.)

Meanwhile, her boss is fearful about SloppyJoe, the competing contractor who is flooding the market with his cheap, low-priced products and shoddy workmanship. (He is the villain.) “All we have to do, then,” says Jill, “is follow him around to pick up the customers he leaves in his wake.”

They meet in one neighborhood where SloppyJoe has been called back for complaints. The homeowner is screaming outdoors to SloppyJoe: “Those rattling registers are driving me CRAZY!”

Jill works the Continental tagline (everyone needs to vent) into conversation and then saves the day by offering a higher quality product. “You’re out,” the homeowner says to SloppyJoe. “And you’re in,” they say to Jill.

Villain drifts away with head hung.

Some time passes . . . Jill receives top recognition by her company for new business development.

I have a more complete story line developed for the second of the two graphic novels I want illustrated. It will enable better estimating:

A strategy meeting is in progress at the headquarters of AirJet, Inc. Mild mannered Marketing Manager, Andrew, joins a room full of company leaders, a couple in suits, other in business casual sitting around a conference table.

Suit: “The numbers aren’t nearly as strong as they should be. Something is happening out there in the industry. Andrew, you’re our eyes and ears out there in the field. Anything going on that we should know about?”

Andrew: ”No quantitative data yet, sir. But I have heard through the rumor mill of a new and massive chimney sweep provider that’s creating some buzz across multiple states”

Suit: “Well, I don’t understand that. Chimney sweeps are supposed to be good for our business but these numbers are going in the wrong direction.”

Andrew: “I don’t get it yet either, sir. But I’m headed back out tomorrow and I’ll get to the bottom it.”

Suit: “You better, before we get to the bottom of our cash reserves! And maybe you better talk to that friend of yours. What’s his name? AJ? I like that guy. Maybe he can help.”

Meeting adjourns. Back in his apartment, Andrew speaks to Rusty, his red and black-haired cat: “I think the boss was right about one thing, Rusty. This sounds like a job for AJ.” The next morning, Andrew transforms into AJ and heads out in costume with Rusty, his trusty cat.

Visits one hearth & patio supply house. Owner confused. Products aren’t selling and the local chimney contractors are very worried a new player in the area.

AJ: “Whaddya know about this new player?”

“Not much, says the owner, “just a name: Creo Sote. But I don’t know where they are getting their supplies. It’s sure not from me.”

AJ calls on some faithful customers.

“We don’t need any services this year,” homeowner says. “We have Creo Sote! They saved me a ton of money.”

As AJ and Rusty move away from the home, they hear a strange chirping from the homeowners chimney.

AJ further investigates and finds the run-down headquarters of Creo Sote Services. “Not the greatest part of town,” AJ says to Rusty. They peer into a dirty warehouse window. Inside, an attractive yet evil looking young lady is dressed in black, a cloud of dust at her feet. Circling over her head are dozens of small black birds. “Chimney swifts,” mutters AJ. Rusty tenses in anticipation of a chase. “Patience, Rusty,” says AJ. “We need to find out what really going on here.”

AJ and Rusty make their way in through an open window. With the exception of a suitably black and dirty service truck, a web-covered black telephone, the young lady and birds seem to be the only occupants and content of the warehouse. As AJ & Rusty listen behind a wall, we hear the young lady speak.

“Alas, my minions, we have captured another market area. Soon, every combustion venting supplier and contractor east of the Mississippi, will fearfully have my name on their lips: Creo Sote!” (Birds chirp in evil celebration.)

The next day, AJ and Rusty “tail” the Creo Sote Services truck as it heads to another nearby community.

They listen in as Creo Sote and her swifts talk with another AirJet customer. “Annual inspections? What a joke. That’s just another way for those chimney sweeps to bilk you every year. And then they want you to replace parts with that expensive AirJet product line. And the labor. It’s ridiculous. All you need is a one-time treatment from Creo Sote Services and our on-going chimney swift service. You don’t need chimney sweeps; you need chimney swifts!”

“That sounds expensive,” homeowner says.

Creo Sote: “Not at all.” With pen and notepad in hand she shows homeowner the estimate.

“Well, that’s not bad at all,” homeowner says.

“And,” adds Creo Sote, it’s guaranteed for the life (and death) of your system.”

“Ah, but what about that on-going swift service?”

“That’s our completely complimentary maintenance service. And you can discontinue the service anytime you like.”

“Well, I’m sold,” says the homeowner.

AJ and Rusty watch in amazement as Creo Sote goes immediately to work. She spreads a black, goey substance all over the inside lining of the chimney. Then she releases a handful of her many swifts who set up residence in the chimney.

“All done,” she announces to homeowner. As she take cash form the homeowner, she is already heading out the door.

“But what if I need to get in touch or have concerns?” asks the homeowner.

“You won’t,” says Creo Sote. “But call our toll free number, 666-CREOSOTE anytime day or night.”

“No one will ever answer anyway,” she mutters as she exists laughing.

AJ and Rusty could stand by no more. As they step out, Creo Sote taunts, “AJ! Come to cry over your former customers?”

“Creo Sote,” says AJ, as he pulls out his trusty chimney brush, “you have spoiled your last chimney.”

“No, not the brush,” Creo Sote screams. As the birds scatter, AJ says: “Go get ‘em Rusty.”

Rusty springs to action against the chimney swifts. AJ begins to “erase” Creo Sote with his brush.

“But all my plans . . .” Croe Sote passes away.

AJ & Rusty begin a community by community clean-up putting many chimney sweeps and their suppliers back to work.
They even clean up the warehouse of the former Creo Sote Services and put a sparkling “For Sale” sign on the outside.

Back at AirJet, another leadership team meeting in underway:

Suit: “Well, it looks like that market anomaly has corrected itself. Any insights Andrew?”

“Nothing that AJ couldn’t handle, sir,” Andrew says with a wink toward “camera.”

I now have complete verbal story boards for these two stories. Please update your estimates based upon this scope of work.I also have other assets that will assist your design process.

FRAME 2
Jill: “I wonder if any of them would let me take a factory tour?”
FRAME 3
Jill on her desk telephone.
Other end of line: “You’ve reached Brand X. Listen carefully as our menu has changed.”

FRAME 10
Jill: “Well, could you transfer me to your factory so I could talk to someone there?”
FRAME 11

FRAME 17
Voice at other end: “Certainly. One moment please.”
Another voice at other end: “Good afternoon. This is Doug. How can I help you.”
FRAME 18
Jill: “Hi Doug. My name is Jill and I’m a contractor. I wanted to know if you permitted factory tours?”
FRAME 19
Doug: “Absolutely. When would like to visit with us?”

Intervening standalone caption: “Sometime later at the Indiana headquarters of Continental Industries . . .”
SCENE 4
Setting is inside factory of Continental Industries. During this scene Jill and Doug will walk through portions of the plant.
Here are some ideas of things they could pass and see as they walk and talk:
• People: The changing scenes should reflect some people, some standing at machines, one or more in fork trucks, one or so with clipboard or tablets in hand as if checking something, one or more hanging parts on hangers to be painted, people packing individually finished items in boxes.
• Warehouse shelves of boxed product.
• Huge rolls of raw material steel and aluminum,
• Presses (large machines stamping out small parts)
• Shipping dept which will wrap up pallets of boxed parts and truck bays loading waiting trucks.
FRAME 1
Setting should be in front of raw material mentioned above with one or two people moving by.
Doug: “This is a big anniversary year for us. Sixty years for Continental Industries and seventy years for AirJet.”
Jill: “That’s impressive. And I imagine it’s not been easy.”
FRAME 2
Same setting.
Doug: “Your right about that. Especially having to compete on a worldwide stage. But we hold our own.”
FRAME 3
Setting in front of presses with operators (people).
Doug: “Our employees earn bonuses based on performance above the minimal expectation.”
Jill: “They certainly looked focused.”
FRAME 4
Setting should be in front of an assembly looking line where workers are hanging finished parts to go into a large paint booth area.
Doug: “We can finish products in brown, white, and black. And for extruded aluminum products, we offer an unfished mill.”
Jill nods in appreciation.
FRAME 5
Setting in front of packing line of painted parts which get wrapped (mechanized with operator attendance) and then placed in boxes.
Jill: “Could I see one of the floor registers before its wrapped?”
FRAME 6
Doug (handing her product): “Sure.”
FRAME 7
Jill inspecting product: “Nice. One piece collar for rigidity. Smooth to the touch. And I like the weight.”
Doug: “And notice the spring-loaded damper. No rattling registers here.”
FRAME 8
Setting is shipping/receiving department with truck bays, pallets ready to ship etc. Busy employees including fork trucks.
Doug: “Next stop: your favorite supply house.”
FRAME 9
Same setting
Jill (pointing to a couple of filled pallets separate from others: “I see those products are labeled as coming from never-ever land. What’s up with that?”
FRAME 10
Doug: “Some distributors and contractors want only the lowest price. We added these to our line to help get them there. Or, we can offer them the Made-in-the-USA quality at a slightly higher price.”
Jill nods approvingly: “Smart.”

Intervening standalone caption: “Back home, Jill’s product choices are all finalized and Global Supply has added Continental to their line. Stellar Services’ new HVAC sales are soaring.”
SCENE 5
FRAMES 1-?
Various frames of Stellar Services trucks and techs in several community settings, outside of homes and businesses. “Plumbing & HVAC” now joins the logo on their trucks/vans.
After showing several frames with no captions, show a close-up of two Stellar Service technicians talking beside their van.
One tech to other: “This job sure has gotten a lot more enjoyable by adding these HVAC services. That Jill’s a real hero.”
Other tech nods approvingly.
SCENE 6
Setting is inside Stellar Services office area. Row of cubicles with couple of offices on side.
FRAME 1
Jill, now wearing a Stellar Services supergirl-like costume, strolls down the aisle. She is in this costume for all subsequent scenes and frames. (I’m open to costume design ideas and colors.)
FRAME 2
Jill standing outside of one of the offices. Boss is standing inside his office but near door.
Boss: “Jill, I gotta tell ya. You’ve exceeded all my expectations.”
FRAME 3
Jill at boss’ office: “Thanks boss. But it’s a team effort all the way. Great products, great suppliers, great techs, great customers . . .”
FRAME 4
Boss: “Still, you led the way and we’re just riding your coattails . . . um , or cape.”
Jill smiling.
FRAME 5
Boss: “And I’m hoping you can help us respond to another market challenge.”
Jill: What’s that?”
FRAME 6
Jill and boss now seated in his office around a small conference table.
Boss: “There’s a threat we need to deal with. SloppyJoe and his contracting services. He seems to be one-man wrecking crew and has started to steal away a few customers.”
FRAME 7
Boss continues: “He’s got cheap products and does shoddy workmanship. But he’s pricing us out among some customers.”
FRAME 8
Jill: “Then all we have to do is follow him around and pick up the customers he leaves in his wake.”
FRAME 9
Boss: “Maybe. I hope so. I don’t want to lose any more customers.”
FRAME 10
Jill is mostly standing now but with one foot resting on the chair she was sitting in
Jill: “Then my mission is clear. Search and destroy.”
Boss nods.
SCENE 7
Setting = Community
FRAME 1 (LARGE FRAME)
SloppyJoe walking away from one home. He is balding, fat, dirty.
SloppyJoe talking to himself as he counts cash in hand: “Another sucker.”
FRAME 2
Jill follows him as he goes to customer. She hides discreetly behind a tree in one yard near enough to hear SloppyJoe who is at the front door with homeowner (older lady) just inside.
Homeowner: “But I’ve always used Stellar Services before.”
FRAME 3
Sloppy Joe handing her a business card: “And you’ve been paying too much for your service and replacement parts. So, you take this card and call me the next time you need service. No since wasting away your fixed income.”
Lady looks fearful.
FRAME 4
SloppyJoe is pulling away as Jill steps up to same house and knocks on door.
FRAME 5
Jill to homeowner lady: “Maam, that was SloppyJoe. Don’t waste your money on him. We’ve always been there for you and we always will. Stay with Stellar.”
Lady smiles.

Intervening standalone caption: “Jill thinks it best to stick to SloppyJoe like glue.”
FRAME 6
SloppyJoe is driving his van; Jill clings to roof.
FRAME 7
SloppyJoe gets phone call on his cell which is mounted to dash.
SloppyJoe to self: “That’s the office calling. Guess I better take it.”
SloppyJoe presses button phone and get hands-free usage: “Yeah, what is it?”
FRAME 8
Voice on other end: “It’s service callback on that new construction project on Elm Street.”
FRAME 9
As Jill listens intently
SloppyJoe: “We already lost our shorts on that deal. What could it be now?”
FRAME 10
Voice on other end: “Dunno, but you better get over there before they call someone else.”

SCENE 8
Setting is outside of another residence. A sign in front lawn declares “Another fine mess by SloppyJoe Services.”
FRAME 1
SloppyJoe’s truck is pulling up to curb, Jill still clinging to roof.
FRAME 2
SloppyJoe is walking up the drive as Jill partially hides behind a bush. Front door begins to open.
FRAME 3
Homeowner (man) steps just outside of the opening. He holds a brown floor register in his left hand which is held high. SloppyJoe is still several feet away as is Jill.
Homeowner screaming in anger: “These rattling registers are driving me CRAZY!!!”
FRAME 4
Jill to herself with a smile: “As Continental would say ‘everyone needs to vent.’”
FRAME 5
SloppyJoe: “But those were the cheapest . .. er, I mean best air outlets I could get.”
FRAME 6
Homeowner (now with register in left hand hung low): “Well then we have a SERIOUS problem!”
FRAME 7
Jill steps out from bush and addresses homeowner: “Well, perhaps Stellar Services can save the day.”

FRAME 8
SloppyJoe: “Jill! What are you doing here?”
Frame 9:
Jill to SloppyJoe: “It’s called properly servicing the customer. Watch and learn.”
FRAME 10
Jill to homeowner with brown floor register in her extended hand: “It’s sound like you need quality, American-made products for your home. Take a look at this.”
FRAME 11
Homeowner takes Continental register in right hand. Both his hands are bent at elbows and slightly extended but the right hand is higher than left.
Homeowner: “Well there’s certainly a noticeable difference in the feel. And look at how tightly these parts are yet still quite moveable.”
FRAME 12
Jill to homeowner: “So, would you pay a few more cents for some peace of mind and quiet operation?”
Homeowner: “ABSOLUTELY!”
FRAME 13
Homeowner to SloppyJoe: “You’re out,”
And homeowner says to Jill. “And you’re in.”
FRAME 14
SloppyJoe drifts away with head hung as Jill and homeowner shale hands.

Intervening standalone caption: “And this marked the beginning of the end for SloppyJoe.”
Another standalone caption: “Some time passes . . . “

SCENE 9
I’m seeing this scene as three large frames:
FRAME 1
Setting is inside a large banquet hall with lots of people, food on tables, etc and stage at front with lectern.
FRAME 2
View of lectern with Jill Boss standing behind it. He is holding a large award (trophy, plaque, something similar)
Boss: “She saved our company. She saved our customers. She saved the day. Let’s give it up for our employee of the year: Jill!”
FRAME 3
Wide view again but only of front of room with people standing and Jill who is hovering in the air approaching the lectern. Her cape waving in the “breeze” and she is smiling broadly.
