watchOS SwiftUI timer countdown even when app is in the background

I have created and finished a small watch app that I am in need of a freelancer to have my apps count down timer still count down even when my app is in the background.

The timer is counting down and needs to do so until it reaches 0. Once it reaches 0 then the background task can

turn off or go to sleep and it can come back into view (or just put a toast message saying the count down is over).

Currently my app is set up where you would have to stay in the app in order to use the countdown. The countdown code is already there and functional - just need it to keep counting down after the app is put in the background. It just stops the countdown if I move it to the background and then it starts where it paused at when I go back into the app.

The app counter wont be needed anymore unless I start another count down. So if I do not start a count down and exit the app there would be no need to have any background tasks running for it

I would like the freelancer to just add that part in my code. The app will not be submitted to the Apple app store - it will only be used by me personally so anything you feel Apple would reject is fine to implement in this case.

This is for an Apple Watch Series 8 45mm version running WatchOS 9.3.1. This is a stand-alone app without the need to communicate with the iPhone. This is my first ever XCode app.
