I need to have a MediaWiki with the VisualEditor. I have installed it on my local webhosting firm, but they would not allow node.js to run due to security. I'm looking someone who can fix me a private MediaWiki running VisualEditor. I see two alternatives:
1) To have the security sensitive services hosted somewhere else and linked to the MediaWiki website I have made so I can use VisualEditor. The project is to get VisualEditor to run on the installed MediaWiki installation.
2) A web hosting company where i can register for an account that allows MediaWiki with the VisualEditor. Please quote the cost for your work to set it up as a private MediaWiki and separately the cost of the first two years of fees to the web hotel.
Please suggest solution 1) or 2) and quote you costs for this small project!
Hi,
I can help you out with the Mediawiki installation along with Visual Editor.
I would advise you to go with new host which will not only support MediaWiki and Visual Editor but would not cause you any trouble in future also.
The hosting charges may vary depending upon the provider but it will be higher as you will have to buy a dedicated server to run node.js (Around $150). And also do you require ssl certificate?
I had experience configuring private MediaWiki's with VisualEditor under Ubuntu Server 12.04, but it can be any other Linux too. We can go for option 1) and run Parsoid service on another Linux machine (VPS) or use html-only wiki (no Parsoid service necessary). The option 2) is _probably_ possible too - I'm awaiting for confirmation for technical details and prices from few Wiki hosting providers. Also I will need more information on what you're trying to achieve. Thanks!
