I have a project I am working on that needs so professional experience. Please bear with me as I do my best to explain the project. The current site is located at [login to view URL] (ASP site) The new site, which we are working on is at [login to view URL] (PHP site) The software used to manage the Pool can be downloaded (as a trial) here: [login to view URL] TIMEFRAME: MUST be completed no later than Feb 16th. Background: I run a pool website that for the NCAA College Basketball Tournament. The site allows users to enter a pool by filling out a bracket of 64 teams. if you are not familiar with the tournament that is held each year in March, Google March Madness and you will get an idea. The tournament is extremely popular. My current site is ASP/SQL based due to the requirements of the software that is used to manage the pool. The pool software is a standalone piece of software that manages the pool and results and then creates ASP webpages and a SQL database. This is then uploaded to the ASP based website for entering the pool and displaying results. I would like to convert this data to allow me to host the site on a PHP/MySQL site. Below is some ideas that were figured out by a couple people I spoke with: Needs for using Turbo Tourney PHP along with a brief overview of how I see it being done. Here are the steps needed to start using the tools that Turbo Tourney provides but creating dynamic pages. First you have to decide that this is really what you want to do. My primary reason for wanting to set things up server side was that I didn't want to upload lots of HTML pages for each result (like player brackets, etc.) and once I found that I could update a database through Turbo Tourney, figured there had to be a way that would work for my setup, and that is where PHP came into play. Use these steps to help get you started: Study the structure of the database to see what all is there. Start with the tables that begin with 'player' and see what data is there. You will find that Doug has laid out the database in a fairly easy manner. Determine the data you want to display and figure out the SQL statements needed to get that out of the database. Working on the SQL is the first step to being able to develop your website using PHP. Using the web reports that Turbo Tourney already generates, you can work to figure out how you want your own reports to look for things (e.g. current standings). I have a scripts page called [login to view URL] that I include in most pages. This has some global variables and most of my functions to generate the output. For everything you want to do, you will need to connect to the database; execute the SQL into a result set and then parse through the result set to echo out the HTML you want to generate. For those that have never used PHP, think of it as a tool to dynamically write HTML files (or portions of them). Once you get basic tables and data generated, you can format the pages how you like; you can use the Turbo Tourney reports as a nice template to start with. I know this is little to go on, but hopefully it is enough information to get started. If this is something you think you can accomplish, please bid. I will also give you access to the current ASP/SQL site so you can see the database, or you can install the software on your server to see how everything works.
