Yahoo Pool Aiming Assistant

I'm teaching my girlfriend a little programming and the project she wants to create is a utility to help her play Yahoo pool ([url removed, login to view]). I ran a search and found "PlayBuddy" (see links below) which does what she wants, but I can't figure out how it is implemented. It looks as if it detects the applet and spies on it's objects, then performs calculations and draws lines on top of the window. It doesn't interact with the applet, but just appears to listen to events and detect the position of the balls. What I need is source code of an application that retreives the required information from an open Yahoo Pool applet. It doesn't need to have a nice interface or options. I just need working code that detects the same window events (looks to be a window paint) and reports the position of the balls. Calculating and drawing projected outcomes is easy and isn't necessary. I can work in Java, C++, or VB (No DotNet). I really don't know how feasible the project is, so I'm hoping someone with experience is willing to help out. I don't know if you can actually "spy" on objects within a compiled program, but since it's an applet, maybe there's a bytecode exception I'm unfamiliar with. If other programs do it, it must be possible. Yahoo Pool: [url removed, login to view] Example Program: [url removed, login to view]
