Create a photoshop script

PURPOSE We scan the covers of all the CDs we sell in order to display artwork on our site. At the moment this process is completely manual. We would like to automate the cropping and alignment of scanned CD cover artwork using Photoshop's scripting functionality. Based on the size of our scanners, we can guarantee our source image files will each include two CD covers. We can guarantee that each file can be cut into two halves without cutting either of the two scanned covers. We can guarantee that the filenames of the input images provided will correspond to the two images present (so new filenames can be created easily by parsing the original). We simply need two separate scripts to automate a two step process: 1.) Calculate the height of the source image and cut it into two equally sized images (storing them as new files). 2.) Process the files created in step 1 to crop out and align only the album cover and save it as a new .tiff file. If necessary, we can modify our input images slightly (e.g. by adding a background color) to improve the accuracy of script. ## Deliverables Below are more in depth requirements and specs for both scripts. INPUT for SCRIPT 1 1. All files will be rectangular, in "portrait" orientation. 2. All files will be saved in the same INPUT directory. 3. All files will be in the .tiff format, 300 dpi. 4. All files will be named [login to view URL], where albumcode1 and albumcode2 are the albumcodes for the album covers appearing at the top and bottom of the file, respectively. 5. The covers present in the .tiff file will never overlap the middle of the file. (In other words, a horizontal line that splits the file into two equally sized images will never pass through either of the album covers in the original image.) 6. There is no guarantee that the two covers present in the .tiff file will be oriented in exactly the same way. 7. The file may contain covers which are from traditional CD jewelcases (nearly perfectly square) or Digipack cases (rectangular). 8. If necessary to improve script performance, the covers may be scanned with an alternate background color (instead of the scanner bed's default white) to increase the contrast between the cover and the image background. SCRIPT 1 OUTPUT (INPUT for SCRIPT 2) 1. Each file will be split into a top and a bottom half, and each half will be stored as a new file. 2. The new files will all be written to a single OUTPUT1 directory, different than the INPUT directory. 3. The files in the INPUT directory will not be deleted or modified. 4. The new files will also be in the .tiff format, 300 dpi. 5. The new files will be named [login to view URL] and [login to view URL], where [login to view URL] is the file which was created from the top half of [login to view URL], and [login to view URL] is the file which was created from the bottom half of albumcode1-albumcode2.tiff. SCRIPT 2 OUTPUT 1. Each file in the OUTPUT1 directory will be cropped and aligned so the single cover present in the file has no surrounding space. 2. After cropping and alignment, each file will be saved to a single OUTPUT2 directory, different than the OUTPUT1 and INPUT directories. 3. The files in the OUTPUT1 and INPUT directories will not be deleted or modified. 4. The new files will also be in the .tiff format, 300 dpi. 5. The new files will have the same file names as the corresponding original files in the OUTPUT1 directory. (Namely, OUTPUT2/[login to view URL] and OUTPUT2/[login to view URL]) OTHER REQUIREMENTS 1. Both Photoshop scripts will be written using the JavaScript language.
