We would like help creating an iPhone application based on the website www.SnoqualmieRidge.org. It should pull news, event, directory and weather information directly from the website so that no additional maintenance need be performed to keep the iPhone application updated. Additionally, we would like to be able to display banner ads of our choosing (i.e. not random google ads). See the "abc news" and "usa today" or other iPhone applications as examples (navigation, news stories with thumbnail images, article sharing, weather display, ability for user refresh content, etc.). ## Deliverables Rent A Coder requirements notice: As originally posted, this bid request does not have complete details. Should a dispute arise and this project go into arbitration "as is", the contract's vagueness might cause it to be interpreted against you, even though you were acting in good-faith. So for your protection, if you are interested in this project, please work-out and document the requirements onsite. * * *This broadcast message was sent to all bidders on Monday Jan 11, 2010 2:08:45 AM: Updated requirements definition as of 1/10/2010. [login to view URL] is a community-focused non-profit website providing residents with relevant information about Snoqualmie Ridge and surrounding areas. The website operates as a non-profit public service. It is staffed by volunteers, with all advertising revenues donated to local public school PTSAs. Neither the website nor it's volunteers charges or collects any revenue of any kind for this service. Summary: The iPhone application should replicate select navigation and content from [login to view URL] (a Joomla CMS website). Our goal is that once the iPhone application is complete, there will be no additional effort required to maintain it (i.e. the app will dynamically pull news articles, directory links, etc. down from the website, populating to the iPhone application), with no seperate databases or content management required to maintain the iPhone application. Characteristics of the app at a summary level include: Branding to remain consistent with [login to view URL] website (colors, logo, logo font) Display in portrait mode only (no landscape mode). Splash screen should include [login to view URL] branding (logo and title) with "Update in Progress" indicator (spinning arrows) during news article update process. Data should be saved locally for offline use Check for updated content when the application is opened (news) and/or navigated to (offers, directory & weather) Default landing screen/homepage when app is opened should be News. Provide "i" (for information) and circular arrow (for Refresh) icons above banner ad and below content portion on all screens. Between icons display "Last updated: ". When the Information icon is selected, provide 1.) Application Information, 2.) Email Support (info@[login to view URL]) and 3.) Share Application sections to user (see USA Today iPhone application as an example). When the Refresh icon is selected, refresh content for that screen. Header banner should include [login to view URL] branding (logo and title) on the left with navigation title on the right Include "breadcrumb" navigation such as a "Back" button, allowing user to easily navigate back to summary level when at a detail level (news, offers and directory). Display banner ads shown on [login to view URL] with same hyperlinking (open Safari). Display at reduced size (shrink from 468x60, down to 68% -- or 320x41 pixels in size), one per page, randomly generated from www.SnoqualmieRidge.org. Show just above footer navigation at all times. Application should be usable by both iPhone and iPod Touch (except for functionality requiring phone or text message support). Provide article sharing capability (email & text message only, integrated with iPhone). See "New York Times" as an example, but email and text message only. We would like the iPhone application to have 5 sections (captured in footer navigation): A. News B. Offers C. Directory D. Weather E. Search A. News Characteristics of the "News" section include: Provide 4 sub-filters in News view: All, ROA, Ridge and Valley (see "USA Today" as an example of news article sub-filters near the top of screen). Content provided by: All -- RSS feed [login to view URL] ROA -- RSS feed: [login to view URL] Ridge -- RSS feed: [login to view URL] Valley -- RSS feed: [login to view URL] Display news articles in date descrending list (date created) Display title of article (in bold letters) and date created (in grey, no bold, smaller font) in summary views When article is selected, navigate user to full article (title, date created and content). No imagery should be provided. B. Offers Characteristics of the "Offers" section include: Content provided by RSS feed [login to view URL] Display articles sorted alphabetically by title Display title only in summary view When article is selected, navigate user to full article (title and content only). C. Directory Characteristics of the "Directory" section include: Similar to the "New York Times" iPhone application's "More" section. Default view to replicate sections and, when selected, results list identical to [login to view URL] (see site for 8 retail directory sections and display order). When section is selected, display business name (hyperlinked, as the website does) and description. Phone number should be hyperlinked, allowing user to select and dial business. D. Weather Characteristics of the "Weather" section include: See USA Today "Weather" as an example. Use [login to view URL] API Do NOT include "Current" or "National" options Display Snoqualmie, Washington weather only E. Search Characteristics of the "Search" section include: Display default search window with keyboard (see "New York Times" app as an example) Default cursor in search field so keyboard displays Offer "Done" button to remove keyboard and return user to default navigation Searches should be executed against all local content (news, offers and directory) Results screen to display title only in summary view When article/directory item is selected, navigate user to full article/directory item (title and content only). Additional questions for developer: How hard would it be to integrate Twitter and Facebook sharing (see "New York Times" application as an example)? We have left it out of the requirements list as we perceive that it would introduce several layers of development and integration. Please include quote for this functionality seperately. We are open to suggestions on the best way to display navigation, update content, etc. Feel free to suggest best practices supporting ease of use and app performance while (obviously) keeping costs to a minimum. Feel free to email any additional questions. Thank you for your interest! We look forward to your response. * * *This broadcast message was sent to all bidders on Monday Jan 11, 2010 12:49:56 PM: Additional point: we would like the original source code provided to us so that we may deploy to the Apple App Store ourselves. We are not sure if this is an assumption or not with rentacoder. Regardless, the app should not contain any development or 3rd party citation or advertisement. It should only contain [login to view URL] references. Thank you. * * *This broadcast message was sent to all bidders on Monday Jan 11, 2010 6:44:14 PM: Our apologies, but there are a couple of requirements we'd like to specify relating to times when the user does not have a data connection. 1.) when user is offline, we would like select local banner ads (that we will provide) to display instead of no banner ads at all (due to lack of connectivity). 2.) application should only download prior 14 days worth of articles in full when refreshing, titles for all others. when articles are selected for reading that are older than 14 days, retrieve on-demand at that time. Thank you. * * *This broadcast message was sent to all bidders on Monday Jan 11, 2010 6:49:05 PM: Additional requirement: Include the following user-configuration parameters (under >Settings): 1.) Jump to Safari Alert (default to "Off"). 2.) Automatic Sync (default to "On"). 3.) Save News for (default to 14 days, provide 7, 14, 21 and 28 day options). Thank you. * * *This broadcast message was sent to all bidders on Monday Jan 11, 2010 8:03:30 PM: Additional request: provide option to view comprehensive alphabetized directory list along with 8 categories. Display below directory categories, in same manner the iPhone Contacts (i.e. business name displayed only, with alphabet navigation on the right hand side). * * *This broadcast message was sent to all bidders on Wednesday Jan 13, 2010 7:03:11 PM: Question for all bidders: I have different types of banners on our Joomla site ([login to view URL]) and intended to create/activate another "type" for iPhone app purposes. Do you have the ability to pull just that type of banner ad from our site if it were located on just one placeholder page? Thanks. * * *This broadcast message was sent to all bidders on Wednesday Jan 13, 2010 10:45:08 PM: I have made a few updates to the requirements list. Consider this comprehensive as of January 13th (ignore all prior requirements posted before this). This is a consolidated, comprehensive list.
