This is our standard Alteryx / Qlik View assignment. I’ve attached 2 CSV files of our time tracking data - 1 for the year 2016 and 1 for the year 2017. Here is the assignment: Using Alteryx, ingest and integrate the CSV files and model the data as you see fit (i.e. additional flat files, QVDs, other). Load the modeled data into Qlik View. Create a dynamic interactive tool in Qlik View to answer the following questions: How many Clients (Customers) and Projects (Jobs) have hours logged in total? Breakdown by Client (Customer). What are the biggest clients in the last week? The last month? The last year? What is the trend of hours over time? Which employees log the most amount of hours? How do billable and non-billable hours compare overall and by employee? Use the attached wireframe as a mock-up for your dashboard. Background: TSheets is our timetracking tool. Employees and vendors log in daily and enter time by Customer (i.e. Ford Motor Company) and Job (or project, i.e. GDIA Engagement). Vendors are subcontractors, but employees and vendors are really the same thing as they both log time against jobs. Non-billable time is logged under the Customer of Internal Codes. All other time is billable. A Customer is the same thing as a Client and a Job is the same thing as a Project. You should submit your Alteryx and Qlik View solutions. QUESTION FOR DISCUSSION: Does Qlik prefer a snowflake or star schema, and why?

Hi, Hope you are doing great. I have expert knowledge in Qlikview designing and development. I have created many dashboards using this tool. Performance wise, star schema is good, but if we consider memory, then snow flake schema is better than star schema.

Hi, I'm interested in your project. Is it possible to make an ETL part in QlikView as I don't have an Alteryx license?

hello, i viewed the data, and I can provide the help on it. we can discuss the details if required. I am not familiar with Alteryx, only Qlikview. as for the best data model, i usually prefer Tree shaped data model for qlikview, which helps understand the filtration capability once additional data sets are injected in the data model, which is close to snow-flick model. star model requires a lot of alias definitions and continuous changes in the center table, which limit the time for scalability. however star model in large data sizes could provide better performance in some cases.

Hello, Based on the requirements and datasets provided, this should be a fairly standard Qlik buildout. As a Qlik architect and designer for 6 years and a certified instructor for 2, most of the data sources I work with on a daily basis are much more complex, unkempt, and consume the majority of the time on projects. I would estimate a 1 day initial build out, and 1-2 days to implement any changes and completion. The portfolio I have included displays some comparable dashboards I have built. To answer your question of star vs. snowflake schemas - generally speaking, star schemas are the preferred data model for Qlikview. Depending on the size of the data and complexity of the calculations in the UI, you will begin to see slower Qlik response times when Qlik is fetching information 3+ tables deep from a fact table. With that said, I have seen approx. 50/50 when it comes to using star vs. snowflake schemas and have used both depending on the business structure. Thanks, Dennis
