Your mission is to prepare charts that visualize the DDOS attack. Your charts should show how the attack is carried out, and be aimed at largely non-technical people - i.e., they have some broad technical knowledge about networking, but are not security people.
There are five distinct phases in the attack. On the MIT documentation page is a chart detailing the five phases in the overall attack - this will give you an idea of when the phases took place, and so where you should search for relevant data for your charts. (Note that your charts should not be limited to the dimensions or data shown in this overview chart!)
The data comes in various formats from various sources:
Here - [url removed, login to view] is complete (and exhaustive!) documentation on this data set. This includes packet captures, XML alert files, etc.
Here- [url removed, login to view] is a detailed list of the hosts involved in the data set.
***** Objective : *****
create one new static (not interactive) chart for each phase, highlighting the events of the attack in that phase. Select the most appropriate chart type for each phase. Follow the principles outlined in the text book when creating your charts (use the six steps of the information visualization process). You must have:
at least one link chart
at least one scatter plot
at least one parallel coordinates chart
