Print files in form library

Approach?

i. XML Files will be filtered in a Sharepoint form library list based on various selection criteria

ii. Print XML files in filtered list (Preferably printed directly from XML with XSLT. No intermediate print format like PDF.)

Business Process / Case

A series of valid SGML files will be delivered to the user. The user will load the SGML files and associated DTD to a network accessible location. The user will open a Sharepoint Services site from a Windows XP client with Office 2003 installed.

1. File navigation, selection and import webpart

The user will then go to a web page on the Sharepoint site where they will be able to execute a webpart service. This service will allow the user to open a dialog, navigate to the network location where the SGML files are located, select the SGML file, multiple files or directory for import. When the dialog is closed, the user will be prompted for a destination location which will be on the Sharepoint website. The files will be imported to the specified location.

2. SGML to XML Conversion handler webpart

Once the files are imported to the Sharepoint site, they will be converted to XML. The user will be provided with another webpart function that allows them to select the SGML file, multiple files or directory as the input / source location. The user will be prompted for a valid SGML DTD. Following the selection of the source location, the user will be prompted to select an output or destination location for the converted files. When the user dialog is closed, the DTD and SGML files will be converted to valid, well formed XSD and XML files respectively. It would be acceptable for the Schema to be pre-converted and be used as a fixed element of the SGML to XML conversion process. The files will be converted and output to the destination location. It is preferred that the James Clark parser be used for the conversion. The process must however be accomplished on the server for performance reasons. File names will be the same as the source files with .XML replacing the original .SGM file extension. An error log will be generated and output to the specified destination location is errors are generated. Successful conversions will be output to the specified destination directory. Files that fail conversion will be output to a subdirectory under the originally specified destination directory.

3. XML to Infopath compatible file prep webpart

User will be able to execute a webpart that will prompt them for a source directory where valid well formed XML files were output from the previous process. The user will be prompted for the location of an Infopath template file. The web service will then process the XML files with infopath header information so that the resulting XML files is valid, well formed and valid to open in Infopath. The user will then be able to import the Infopath XML files to the Sharepoint form library using the Sharepoint “Upload” function.

4. Print files displayed in filtered Sharepoint form library list

After the user has “Uploaded” Infopath XML files into the Sharepoint form library, they will filter the list based on adhoc criteria. This will be based on Sharepoint filter capabilities. The user will then be able to select a service that will print the XML files that are referenced in the filtered list. The print process will use the Infopath XML file and Infopath XSL view which may be pre exported if necessary. It will not be possible to use an intermediary format (PDF) for printing.

The server is windows Server 2003, MS SQL Server with Infopath 2003 installed. It must be possible to accomplish the entire process from a web browser without client side installs except a Office 2003 CAL.
