Project Fees

While it is free to sign uppost projectsplace bids, and discuss project requirements, once a project is awarded, we may charge a small project fee relative to the value of the selected bid, as an introduction fee.

Project fees are generally non-refundable for projects that have been accepted. Refund or adjustment requests of these fees are subject to review prior to approval.

The Freelancer Fees and Charges page includes project fees as governed by the terms of the Freelancer User Agreement.

For Clients

  • Fixed-price projects / Hourly-Fixed projects. 3% of the winning bid or $3 USD (or its approximate equivalent in other currencies) - whichever is greater - is collected as soon as the project is awarded. Each subsequent payment to the freelancer in excess of the original bid amount will incur a 3% project fee.

To illustrate, let's have a $100 fixed-price project. Upon completion of the project, you decided to release 150 USD to your freelancer for their excellent work. Since an extra payment of 50 USD was released, 3% of it, which is 1.5 USD, will be charged as project fee on top of the 3 USD that was charged when the project was accepted.

In the event that the award gets revoked or rejected by the freelancer, a fee refund will be initiated automatically.

  • Hourly projects. Fees are charged in hourly projects upon creation of a Milestone Payment, not upon project acceptance. 3% of every created Milestone is charged to clients. If the Milestone Payment is cancelled, the fee is refunded automatically.

If the hourly project gets awarded by clicking the "I prefer to pay a Fixed Price" the project will work just like how a fixed-price project works and so as the fees, meaning, it would be at 3% of the winning bid or $3 USD instantly upon acceptance.

For Freelancers

  • Fixed-price projects / Hourly-Fixed projects.10% of the winning bid or $5 USD (or its approximate equivalent in other currencies) - whichever is greater - is collected as soon as the awarded freelancer accepts the project. Each subsequent payment the freelancer receives in excess of the original bid amount will incur a 10% project fee.

To illustrate, let's have a $100 fixed-price project. Upon completion of the project, your client decided to release 150 USD to you for your excellent work. Since an extra payment of 50 USD was released, 10% of it, which is 5 USD, will be charged as project fee on top of the 10 USD that was charged when the project was accepted.

  • Hourly projects. Fees are charged in hourly projects upon release of a Milestone Payment, not upon project acceptance. 10% of every Milestone Payment released is charged to freelancers as project fee.

If the hourly project gets awarded by the client through the "I prefer to pay a Fixed Price" option, the project will work just like how a fixed-price project works and so as the fees, meaning, it would be at 10% of the winning bid or $5 USD instantly upon acceptance.

Note: Bonus or tip from clients is subject to a 10% fee. Bonus payments are considered overage payment to freelancers.

Note: Australian residents are subject to GST of 10%. Other government taxes like VAT may apply, depending on your region.
