## BIO **Triple I - Department of Energy Kansas City, MO Java Software Engineer 10/2001 to 9/2002 ** * Inherited two applications abandoned by prior contractors and ushered them through QA and into production, both requiring many major fixes to pass QA. * Successfully enhanced a legacy application which was failing in production due to data congestion. In only two weeks to improve its performance 10X while porting it from JRun to 9iAS, and replacing the authentication scheme with one utilizing Oracle SSO and LDAP. * Designed and developed all facets of an application for managing laboratory workflow including working with client to discover and document requirements. Utilized a structured design approach including creating UML models of the architecture and processes. * Was responsible for all Oracle database and 9iAS application server setup and administration in a Solaris environment for my applications, including writing many stored procedures. I actually pioneered the use of several advanced Oracle features at our location. * Was requested to participate in focus groups determining the future direction for a generalized application architecture which all developers will be required to adhere to, and thus critiqued and helped develop specifications docuemnting architectures for developing web centric and palm pc based applications. * Aided other developers, teams and managers in coming up with solutions to common problems such as how to maintain database security, etc. Utilized my expertise in low-level jvm functionality to help another team enhance the performance of a very large, mission critical project. * Skills used: Servlets, JSP, XML, LDAP, Velocity, Oracle 8.1.7, Oracle 9iAS, JProbe, Together ControlCenter for UML modeling. **Midwest Consulting Group - Sprint LD Overland Park, KS Consultant 7/2/2001 to 8/26/2001 ** * Developed software components throughout a J2EE architecture for an application used in tracking DSL circuits in the various stages of activation. * Developed and maintained UML models of the software use cases, processes and architecture using Rational Rose. * Served as a resouce for other team members by helping debug difficult problems and advising architectural solutions. * Configured and administered a Weblogic server for the needs of our moderate sized project (~50 EJBs.) Gained significant expertise in how Weblogic's application classloaders work when debugging issues with our EJB packages. * Was instrumental in solving problems with packaging and deployment of the application. * Worked directly with user community in determining requirements for the project. * Was instrumental in developing Oracle stored procedures for our team, especially some very complex procedures requiring a large amount of dynamic SQL. * Skills used: EJB, JSP, JavaBeans, Oracle 8.1.7, Weblogic 6.0, Solaris. **Netsales, Inc. Overland Park, KS Java Software Engineer 8/2000 to 6/2001 ** * Developed Enterprise Java Bean and JavaBean components throughout a B2B eCommerce application focused on connecting suppliers to their customers' eProcurement systems. * Developed and maintained models of my components' architecture and processes using Rational Rose. Also volunteered responsibility for ensuring synchronization of Rose model and actual code for entire team. * Was entrusted to develop a catalog search engine utilizing the AltaVista Search Developer's Kit, arguably the most complex piece of our architecture. * Developed front to back catalog administration functionality utilizing EJB, JSP, Tag Libraries, JavaBeans and Servlets. * Quickly learned Java and J2EE with no prior experience of the technologies and became de facto lead and mentor on a five person client engineering team responsible for developing client sites using J2EE technologies. Was sent to evaluate a JSP\Servlet class for other team members. * Developed file upload and processing servlets which allowed bulk uploads of XML data such as catalogs and customers. * Completed tasks on time working in small teams of up to 5 engineers. Routinely went above and beyond requirements and was often asked to help other engineers solve difficult problems or small "nagging" problems such as deprecation warnings introduced by other team members. * Excelled at enhancing performance of existing components, once increasing product retrieval speed to under 5 seconds from over 2 minutes by developingenhanced stored procedures and more efficient Java algorithms. * Constantly researched techniques to enhance our product and development such as how to best utilize Model-View-Controller architecture and most effectively deploy our application. * Utilized the PVCS issue tracking system to track issues reported by other developers, QA or customers. * Configured and administered Weblogic 4 and 5 in a Solaris environment hosting a very large J2EE application (>100 EJBs.) * Skills used: Java, J2EE, JSP, Servlets, JavaBeans, EJB, JDBC, Application Deployment Strategy, HTML, Application Modeling (Rational Rose), Oracle 8i, PL/SQL, Solaris, Weblogic, Tomcat **Generation Technologies Corporation Overland Park, KS Windows Software Engineer 3/1998 to 8/2000 ** * Developed all facets from front-end GUI to a homegrown back-end middle-tier server for a newsroom automation application for Windows NT which managed news wires (AP, Reuters, etc) and newsroom video hardware. * Was personally responsible for the desktop application developed using C\C++, MFC, COM\DCOM, ATL and Win32. The application allowed reporters to view news wires and to preview video at their desks. * Developed back-end components for true real-time video device control using C\C++ and COM\DCOM. These components were required to emphasize performance and responsiveness to meet requirements for television broadcast. * Designed and developed software using C\C++ and COM\DCOM which packaged data for satellite transmission and then inserted it into the newsroom computer system at the other end of the satellite link. The software also monitored and maintained the state of the satellite link. * Developed stored procedures and administered databases including such things as managing the full text indexing engine on Microsoft SQL Server. * Helped maintain network infrastructure and server environments. * Skills used: C++, COM\DCOM, Win32 API, MFC, Platform SDK, Windows GUI development, ActiveX, serial communication, winsock programming, Visual C++, WinDBG ## Area of Expertise * **Certifications:** Sun Certified Java Programmer, Microsoft Certified Professional * **Languages:** Java (3), C++ (4), C (4), Visual Basic (1), Fortran (1) Operating Systems: Windows 9x (6), Windows NT (4), Windows 2000 (2), Solaris (2), Linux (3), VAX (1), DEC Alpha (1) * **Java Technologies:** JavaBeans (2), Enterprise JavaBeans (2), JavaServer Pages (2), Servlets (2) * **Microsoft Technologies:** Win32 API (4), MFC (4), Platform SDK (3), COM\DCOM (3), ActiveX (1) * **Databases:** Oracle 8i (2), Microsoft SQL Server (3), mySQL (3), PostGreSQL (1) * **Application Servers:** Bea Weblogic (2), jBoss (1), Enhydra (1), Oracle 9iAS (1) * **Servlet Engines:** Apache Tomcat (3), Caucho Resin (1), Oracle OC4J (1) IDE's and Editors: Sun Forte (1), Borland JBuilder (1),MicroEdge Visual SlickEdit (1), Microsoft Visual Studio(4), vi (2) * **Modeling Tools:** Rational Rose (1), Microsoft Visio Enterprise (2), Together Control Center (1) * **Debugging Tools:** Sitraka JProbe (2), Karmira BugSeeker2(1), Rational Quantify (1), Rational Purify (1), NuMega BoundsChecker (3), Microsoft WinDbg (3) * **Incident Tracking Systems:** PVCS Tracker (2), Elsinore Visual Intercept (2)
