Hi Freelancers - I need some business/accounting advice!
BACKGROUND:
My primary career is in an industry that is currently stagnant - my wages are down and I have an excess in free time. In order to supplement cashflow and use up my spare time, I've decided to learn a bit more about business startups and try my hand at a few.
But I don’t want to just start one company - I currently have multiple "ideas" that I'd like to turn into multiple “businesses”. These ideas are small, and the cash flow they can generate is also small, but each has enough potential to keep me interested and further example. For example, my first “business idea” has grossed ~$10,000 this year; my second “business idea” has grossed ~$4,000 this year; a few more have generated a small amount of income, a few others are negative as I research their feasibility, and a few ideas have been abandoned altogether – resulting in a (small) loss.
Right now, I’m passing all of these profits and losses along to my personal taxes, and I’d really like to handle them separately.
WHAT I WANT TO DO:
I’m looking to create a single parent company to act as a business incubator and collate all accounting. It would handle all of the legal filings, accounting, taxes, etc, as each of these startups gets moving. If the business idea works out, I’d eventually like to spin it off as its own entity. Any business that is either too small or too unsuccessful would stay under the parent company. Any business that fails under the parent would be abandoned, and hopefully written off come tax time.
WHAT I NEED:
I need advice on the feasibility of this idea. I know a few of my business ideas have merit and can generate income – but I don’t know how to structure this. I’m very interested in learning how to operate a business, through successes and failures. So, I need your professional advice on startups, business incubation, accounting, taxes, legal concerns … and whatever else you can think of. I’m willing to pay for this advice, and would hope to continue consulting as these ideas develop and I need further advice.
