you have to choose the statistical sampling activity that will be undertaken, and the hypotheses that will be tested because i need to get the approval from the convenor for the task
TASK:
The student is to collect data from the statistical population on their chosen topic. The statistical population is required to have a Normal Distribution, and the collected data must be chosen by pure random sampling. The student can collect their own data, or can utilised existing outside sourced data (such as data obtained from the internet). If an outside source of data is utilised, then your report will need to clearly acknowledge (reference) the outside data.
For the report you will need to discuss the following points about the data:
- Full details on how, when, where, and why the data was collected.
- Verify that the collected data was obtained by a random sampling.
- Justification of why this sample data (size) is enough to form inferences on the entire population.
So if an outside data source is utilised, ensure the above topics can be discussed about the data.
The student is then required to perform a ‘Two Sample Hypothesis Test’ on the obtained data. This refers to separating the collected data into two distinct groups, and comparing the average (mean) of the two groups. An hypothesis test (z-test) will be utilised to determine if there is a statistical difference in the mean values between these two groups (to some chosen significance level).
