Hello, I understand you are trying to turn your short story into a graphic novel type of illustration. I have been self publishing comics locally for the last 5 years and would like to help you in your endeavor and understand not only the amount of time this will take, but also how to best take a written story and make it viable for visual means. We would need to sit down and discuss a preferred style first. As it is a children's book I would assume something cute and or simplistic would be best but sitting down and understanding what you like would be the first goal. After that we would need to discuss character designs while also deciding exactly which parts of the short story would/should be illustrated. When a short story is illustrated people tend to make a very common mistake of trying to put all the same information that would be in a single written page onto an illustration. This makes the comics drag on and causes the audience to lose interest. I begin sending basic outlines or storyboards without major details. Once we agree upon placements I ink, color, and create each page. The entire process can be as fast as a page to 2 pages a day but first it would be best to get a basic as to exactly how each step should be taken to give your story the best representation possible. Before I was a graphic designer I was a comic book artist! I know that with my skills I have what you need in order to provide a superior product that you can be proud of. LAYOUT PHASE I'll read the story, layout the rough thumbnails of each page as I see them. At this time I will also take your characters and render them in a CGI environment for maximum versatility and usage in the fine scenes. DESIGN PHASE Once the layout has been approved and the characters meet your approval we will go into product rendering the panels and creating a mock up of the text placement and caption styles. At this time we will also pin down the font palette and visual style for things like captions, dialogue and sound effect treatments. FINAL EXECUTION PHASE Once the wrinkles have been ironed out the final execution is to provide you with all of the relevant files in their final format for print. From there we can revisit any last minute details that may work better and possibly reimagine items that don't seem to jibe right with the final desired outcome. Ultimately the priority is to get what's in your head onto paper and finally into a digital format you can best utilize to see your project come to life in a way that is stunning and effective. Everything I do is in CGI which will allow us the MOST versatility with creating and maximizing the potential for visual success.
