Hello there In most cases the set up should be ready in a few hours, I have placed 3 days because in very rare occasions the dns might take longer to propagate. Firstly what server operating system are you using? example Debian based or RedHat. Are you going to use any web based admin for the server? if yes which one? example WHM CPanel, Plesk or webmin? Note that cpanel doesn't work with debian based such as Ubuntu. How many virtual hosts are you going to have? with tools such as cpanel, creating virtual hosts will be a click of a button. Is SSH the only method available in managing your server? if yes, then there are lots of configurations that tools such as cpanel makes easy, for instance apache compilation is done a lot easier from a tool such as easy Apache than to manually do it. I Assume the rackspace server is Linux. 1) Webserver -- Apache or anything based on your requirement. 2) FTP server -- Crushftp server is at its best with GUI or any basic ftp server 3) Monitoring -- we can use nagios to monitor the server and services as well 4) security -- we can harden the server at firewall level and OS level ( if we open ssh port to public we can install fail2ban software to restrict DDos attacks) Thanks, Ponnam
