City Guide Theme Upgrades

We are running the City Guide theme by Woothemes and need some functionality added to the news blog side of our website. By default, you manually upload a featured image in the post backend before publishing and that image becomes your thumbnail image in the Category/Blog News section (where it shows your post list for that new category). Also, it formats a thumbnail inside the Wootheme sidebar. Our blog is operated by WPRobot, we use WProbot to pull an RSS Feed campaign for us and that campaign creates posts for us into drafts where we can approve later on upon moderation. The issue is that when WProbot pulls these posts, the image (if there is one) isn't getting formatted as a featured thumbnail for that post like it should by default. What we need is functionality added to it so that when a post is pulled via WPRobot, the first image inside of it gets formatted as a featured thumbnail for that post so that it shows up in the respective areas within the City Guide map.
