I have an Access database that I want to get reports from. I want to use Visual Basic 6 (not .net) to call the reports and present them to the user. Since some of my clients won't have Access installed on their machines, I will be using the Access in compiled (mde) format.
Which means that your result has to work by calling the Access mde database report. Hopefully this can be done without the need to open the Access database at all.
The last part is that I need to pass parameters for the report from the Visual Basic program (which is what the user is looking at).
Attached is an Access 2000 database. Inside the database is a table called ContributionsTemp. As the name suggests it is a table for donations/contributions. I need an Access report that can be sorted different ways based on parameters. The table structure is:
Item_Id
Donor_Name
Amount
Donation_Type
Donation_Program
The default option is for the data to be displayed just as it is in the table (sorted by Item_Id).The next option is to sort based on Name (this would be sorted by Name and then Amount; so two people with same name who gave different amounts could displayed correctly [smallest amount first])The next option is to sort based on Donation_Type (this would be sorted by Donation_Type, Name and then Amount)The next option is to sort based on Donation_Program (this would be sorted by Donation_Program, Name and then Amount)
Now for the hard part. I need a Visual Basic form that will have radio buttons that have the 4 options above. It will then send the selected parameter to Access and then launch the report.
The Visual Basic application and the Access database will always be in the same folder, so you can make your connection string using that assumption.
If any part of this description is confusing, please let me know before you bid.
