Hi, currently have an access application that exports queries to excel via the [login to view URL] method. Once exported I use the Excel Object model from access to loop through the .xls file and insert subtotals and adjust formatting etc (as per sample code at the end of this document)
We will be moving a terminal server environment shortly which will be using access runtime without excel installed. My understanding is that the [login to view URL] will still work from access without excel installed (please correct me if I'm wrong) but I can't use the excel object model (again correct me if I'm wrongJ)
What I require is for someone to develop something in access or vb.net (must be able to be called from my current access application) which will allow me to specify certain conditions and format the sheet accordingly (inserting subtotals etc) without the computer requiring excel to be installed.
See attached document for detailed overview (once you look at the example it should become pretty clear.)
## Deliverables
What I require is for someone to develop something in access or vb.net (must be able to be called from my current access application) which will allow me to do the following without excel installed:
Specify an excel file (eg c:\[login to view URL]),
Specify whether to format the heading blnFormatHeading (true, false)
A check column(eg "A")
A boolean variable to indicate if spreadsheet totals are required IncludeReportTotal.
A label column (eg,"F")
A label name (eg, "Monthly Total:")
A subtotal column (eg, "G")
Four optional subtotal columns("H","I","J","K")
From this it will need to find the file. If blnformatheading is true then bold the first row (the heading row). Then proceed to loop through the file and look at the check column (ignoring the first row header column) and loop through it. If the value in the check column changes eg goes from #1/1/2012# to #2/1/2012# (could be any data type eg date, text) it will need to insert a new row and add the label name in the label column and the subtotal for the previous lot of data. (you will need to keep value counters for each subtotal columns which will get reset to 0 after it encounters a new value in the check column. You will also need to keep a counter for each subtotal column for the entire dataset if IncludeReportTotals is set to true. All sub totals can be in bold and I would also like a blank row under each sub total.
See the attached file for the example with makes it much easier to understand.
Thanks
