This is an algorithm design / prototype implementation.
In our application, we realized that insert operations to our btree implementation arrive in bulks (about 20 inserts per transaction) and we have more write operations than read operations. We need to check if the number of disk writes of a btree algorithm can be decreased by caching the insert operations in the root and then in the intermediate children and performing them in bulk later.
1. Use an existing sample btree implementation and create a test program that creates/deletes/searches a large number of entries and measures number of disk writes/reads along the way (The btree implementation can be copied from any source) 2. test the above with order 3 (max 3 children) and where each child is a separate file 3. modify the above to cache the inserts at the root and then intermediate children. Check if that makes any difference. The prototype must be in java or c++.
This will not be used in production so no major testing will be done.
## Deliverables
1) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the worker's Worker Legal Agreement).
2) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.
3) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables):
a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Worker in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment.
b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.
